GT5: The Countdown Begins!

I'm really surprised how well my G27 works in this game. Clutch is perfect and so is the handling and shift light indicator. Haven't played it much (4 races) but it's a really cool game. Will like to give online a go.

Agreed that is the most important single facet of any game that attempts to combine racing and simulation, but I find the fact that they didn't even bother with a rudimentary dashboard view for 80% of the cars rather peculiar. 6 years, give or take...

I've grown to love Forza's dash camera; it adds hugely to the immersion for me. Being able to only experience that in GT5 with what amounts to about 1/3 of the number of cars I've got with all the DLC in Forza3 just means to me the expense of a PS3 + GT5 would not be justified.

It's a pity though. I was half rearing for an excuse to go rape the credit card. :p

Be honest, really interested? I doubt, so why spam the thread?

Good day mr two post guy. Yes, I would've been but what I've seen does not impress me enough to make me part with my money. You know, things like this:

Gran Turismo 5: Non-Premium Cars Look Awful – Prevent You From Taking Close-Up Photos

My stance has consistently been that of hoping people who do get it enjoy it. It just seems pretty clear that GT5 isn't the be-all and end-all that it was hyped to be. ;)

*edit*

To add: the GT franchise introduced me, like I'm sure many others, to the concept of racing sims. Given its massive scale & undeniable impact on an entire industry, I don't see how my interest is misplaced. Or are only the "zOMG, GT5 pwns teh everything"-crowd allowed an opinion?

Read any of the good and more convincing reviews? Anyway, please yourself.

I don't need reviews to be convincing; you're describing propaganda, a major cause of idiot fanboi causticity. But to answer your question, yes I've read just about every review published so far because... wait for it... I'm interested, and because I'm sincerely impressed by the sheer scale of what PD set out to achieve. Out of these I've distilled what I take to be a fairly factual, unbiased opinion of the game. 'Scuse me for not being absolutely awe-struck.

I got the game yesterday and spent about an hour with it. Impressed so far but tbh, I was a little disappointed that the dashboard view and damage is only applicable to certain cars (this is what I've heard). Still looks like an engrossing game though.

Didn't you have GT5 Prologue? That wheel is practically made for that game.

http://www.gamersmint.com/gran-turismo-5-scores-86-at-metacritic-harsh-reality-or-unfair-judgement

Gran Turismo 5 has released today after being more than 5 years in the making but reviewers arent’ too pleased with the game with most reviews giving it an 8 or 9.
The game sits at an decent 86 over at Metacritic right now after 12 reviews accumulated. From where we stand, it can only go down still.
But, a question that we need to ask is, is this really fair? We can confirm that most publications received their review code this weekend and might not even had tested the online functionalities since those went live earlier today and yet they published their review and claimed to have tested out everything that the game has on offer.
Our reviewer is yet to touch even a fraction of the game after playing for hours at end. From what we hear, he feels GT 5 maintains its own style and do not imitiate others and hence the game might be getting unfair criticism as a result.
Whatever it is, Polyphony won’t be too happy with the review scores as after five years of hard work, they would have atleast expected the game to be sitting in the 90s over at Metacritic.
We won’t be rushing our review though but rest assure, when it is out, it will be as comprehensive as any GT fans would want it to be.

If you look for flaws in any game on the market and you will find them, GT5 included, however sometimes you need to take a step back and look at a game for what it is, and with its high attention to detail, stunning looks and quite frankly almost perfect on track action, Gran Turismo 5 is as close to perfect as any racing fan could possibly ask for, and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

Rating: 10/10

Wow? This is just too much.

Reviews so far for this game in a nutshell:

It's a great racer, but not the racer that warranted 5 years of hype calling it the game that will define racing. Sim fanatics over the world ain't gonna sell their PC to play a sim on the PS3.

Forza 3 was developed in 2 years and was received very well, more or less the same as what GT5 is now. But lets not go and compare the two. I'm just putting it out there.

PS. Please except that not everyone is creaming their pants over the game YOU are creaming your pants over.
