GTA IV Graphics WTH!?!?

The graphics are ALL set to THE LOWEST setting possible, and it lags just as mush as the highest settings? WTH is going on here.

The graphics are crap I have played games with better graphics on my computer and this game still lags.

How can I fix it?
 
Wait 20 years for your computer to be able to handle the crappy PC port.
 
It's actually not a PC port. They rebuilt it "from the ground up" for the PC which is why it was released 8 months after the console release. Just makes it even more sad.
 
I got so irritated trying to play this game on PC I just stopped playing altogether. I have a copy for Xbox 360 but it's broken. Meh. Find something else Pooky. lol
 
You also need a fast muiltple core CPU as well.

I also had that problem with my PC (i7 920(oc'd), 6GB 1333 ram ,XFI HD 5850 Black ed ) just go download the patches it fixes the problems and you can enjoy the game :)
 
Have you applied any patches to the game ? They do improve performance somewhat. (Actually, I believe the very latest patch actually decreased performace slightly, so you may only want to patch to the second newest one) Also, if you have an AMD processor and you're still using XP you should install the dual-core optimizer.
 
Yip - GTA IV is going to need a monster of a rig!

My little E7400, 4GB DDR2-800, 8800GT, on Win7 x64 rig, back in the day, really was "The Little Engine that Could" with this game :p :D
Lekker game - but needs processing power from all sides of your chassis! :D (Way more than what I had :D)
 
there is a bug with GTA IV and pressing keys on a keyboard..... you have to disable is Windows event log, and this strange lag is gone.
So, use windows key + R, type msconfig, go to services, disable Windows event log, apply, ok, restart computer. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=392315

The only problem is that if event log is disable then you can't connect to any lan/wifi/3g/adsl networks...

But the fix works perfectly

The game runs perfectly on my box (quad core + 9800GT). Maybe you need a hardware upgrade?
 
Are you running Windows 7?

Im running Win7 64 bit... had the same problem. Fixed it by running in WinXP (SP3) compatibility mode.

GTA IV will kill most rigs, but not because of the graphics card.

GTA IV is VERY processor heavy. I went from 20FPS Average to 65FPS Average just by swapping out my 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo for a 2.8Ghz Core i7.

GPU: ATI HD4870.
RAM: 4GB.

The game just has rather obtuse system requirements.
 
Pooky, try yhe fix i gave u! I will most likely work! I have run GTA IV on my dads E4300 C2DUO with 2 gig ram and nvidia 9600g5 and it runs really really well! PPl have misconception bout GTA IV. Most of the time its this keyboard issue! Its only a quick enable, restart and run game to see if it works. You might even be able to right a custom boot seq to enable disable event logging for whenever you want to play gta
 
Eish that CPU is certainly the problem.
