GTA V hits $1 billion in sales

Grand Theft Auto V has crossed the $1 billion sales mark after three days in stores, a rate faster than any other video game, film or other entertainment product has ever managed

The FIFA and Call of Duty franchises must make quite a bit of dough too. I've never understood how those game could be so crap, or at best produce just enough to pass inspection.

It's poor value for money, if you don't play online.

GTA5 will keep me busy for months to come.

Had no doubt GTA would hit massive sales. Most likely, R* are porting the game to next gen consoles and might just see a decent pc port this time, since next gen consoles are based on x86. Sales momentum will be strong if R* is taking this route.

My point is that those games should be amazing, but they're not. EA and Activision are coining it big time when they could be pushing the envelope with those franchises.

Since it made 1 billion.... goes looking for the torrent and crack

not serious.

NICE. Another feather in the cap of the gaming industry.

I read that it is the fastest entertainment media to reach $1,000,000,000 (It is a lot of 0's when you type it out). While mobile gaming may be great at getting a large audience paying low sums of money it isn't the only form of gaming in the future and GTA proves this. I am sure the response for FIFA 14 and COD: Ghost is going to be crazy too. Perhaps not this big.

I understand that COD may be holding a bit back from us but FIFA is a very different type of game. They don't have the ability to really add a huge world and tons of missions because the focus is on football. They have certainly been improving the physics engine behind it and the graphics have improved a hell of a lot but they simply don't have the scope of GTA. Not to mention the licensing and sponsorship costs must be huge. I don't think Messi and Bale decided to do the cover for free.

Now if only EA would do a decent rugby game. They could use the engine they use for Madden. Come on EA, get in the game.

+1.

EA is an example to all that absolute crap still sells, when endorsed by with the right name...
