GTX 260 power supply issue?

So I got hold of a great deal on an MSI 260 twin frozr - frickin sweet card! Temps solid at 45c on load - can't wait to try overclocking it. But I'm having this thing now where in certain circumstances the monitor dips in brightness. It could be a specific webpage or a scene in a game for instance. I can run stress tests in Furmark no problem, play through games - but only in very specific areas (not necessarily graphically intensive) the screen does this dipping thing. The only thing I can guess is that my power supply is taking strain which is quite possible given that it's only a 500w Isonic but then why wouldn't it cave in under stress tests? Is it possibly a driver thing? Baffled - any help appreciated before I splash out on a possibly unnecessary psu upgrade.
 
500w should be fine depending on what els your running optical and hdd wise. My 260 runs fine whit 3 hdd's and 1 dvd drive, but I run a 800w
 
Yeah well everything else is very minimal - one HDD, some fan controllers but nothing that would cause too much strain I'd think. So what do you guess it could be, any idea? It was definitely an issue that only began with this gfx card btw.

try it in a friends pc whit a stronger PSU if you get the same problems its the gfx card not your pc
 
haha lol ok..... the screen is nearly new 2433bw, previously I had a whole raft of gfx cards - from 4850 to onboard, x600 to 9400gt in the space of a couple of months (don't ask). But only since yesterday when I got this card it started doing this. I'm nearly certain therefore it's something related to the new card - either driver, psu or faulty card but I have no way of knowing what.

PP - yeah isonic :/ but i'm going to get a better psu sooner or later just was hoping to defer it till I could get a better processor because I'm pretty certain it's throttling the card atm.
 
if you still have your old card(s), use 'em and see if the problem still persists then you know its the screen
 
My hunch...not psu nor lcd. If it occurs in specific places then its driver related...you seem to have had a lot of diff cards. Try using driver sweeper and reload drivers. Also try the card in another pc to make sure its not hardware related
 
:wtf: im guessing its a driver issue , also +1 to adaptive brightness tip . try using driver sweeper , reinstall driver .
