GTX 960 vs R9 380

Go Maxwell, save electricity :p
Eskom will appreciate it...

This whole power consumption thing is really a non issue.
Say your PC uses 300W max and you use it 4hrs/day every day of the year, calculate your yearly running cost based on the kWâ‹…h rate you pay.
Next do the same for a PC using 100W more and calculate the difference between the two, it's really not much.

It works out to less than a beer a month at your local from a quick calculation.

(2 betters, must be better :p)
Anyways, proof of that?
I would actually assume the R9 380 to be better than the GTX960 due to better support for DirectX12, whereby the CPU can be skipped for queuing graphics.

The R9 380 would be a better buy for future proofing.

(Am currently running 2x R9 280X (desktop), and a GTX960M (laptop), so am not a fan boy, just reading up on all the cards.)

The power consumption was the primary sell for me though.

If it is price related you won't even notice the additional 31W on your eskom bill.

No need to update the power supply, quieter and I have two display port monitors which the 960 supports and the 380 does not.

The 960 was a better fit for my requirements than the 380 at the moment and I upgraded from the 6870.

According to what you listed the R9 380 was the better card? They didn't even show tests where it was overclocked/underclocked.

So only the display port? You did not have an HDMI port for one of the screens and a display port for the other?
You can also daisy-chain the display ports. (2nd)
About noise: I am running an R9 280X on two different machines, you can't hear it unless you are playing something like ACU.

You are flogging a dead horse since in the end the 960 suited my requirements more. I had the following on my list performance/watt, pricing, card size, operational temperature and two Display Ports.

Random fact: Since HDMI is proprietary you pay extra for any device that you own that supports it.

Hey, every watt saved counts.

And according to a review, i think its like 70-80w difference.

But I would definitely go AMD though, muscle power! Driver updates will only make it perform even better.

intel or amd?

NVidia or amd/ati?

its pretty simple, always has been. If you have the cash get NVidia/intel. if you are low on funds get AMD. :P

And this is how you spot someone that doesn't know what he is talking about.
