Hi there mybb peeps

I have a problem with my GTX280. my GTX280 hit's 55C on idle with fan speed at 100% and sometimes over 80C when playing games. What can be the problem. I've cleaned out my pc and gpu still same issue. Also my GPU is out of warranty. I'm staying in Pretoria

here's my pc specs

Case: CM storm sniper black edition
CPU: Q9450
CPU cooler: Zalman CNPS9700
HDD: 5 SATA HDD
PSU: Corsair TX650w
RAM: Apacer Giant DDRII 1066MHz

So what can I do to lower the temps on my gtx280? I already did this voltage mod. The voltage mod is to lower the voltages on the card and it seems to run a bit cooler but not that much. I also reapplied some thermalpaste (cooler master fusion).

Dude thats normal temps for a GTX280. It can go up to 115C....

I use rivatuner to control XFX GTX280's fan. I have 3 fan pofiles:

0 - 50 = 60%
50 - 60 = 80 %
60+ = 100%

cool man. I was also thinking maybe I should go on with it and then just wait till my card goes up in flames and only then I will upgrade to a better GPU. I'm really looking at the Nvidia surround 2d not the 3d though.

I'm using MSI afterburner and I set the fan on 80% idle and 100% load

Hey

With a side fan on your case, it causes turbulence on the side of the Graphics card and therfore centrifugal fan does not work as well as it could with air just fed from the front fans.

An Experiment
Turn your side fan off and up the speed of your bottom front fan. Set fan speed back to auto and check you temprature.
Repeat with highest fan speed and check difference. My money is on better temps with side fan off.

Side fan works brilliant with open heat sink with radial fan, results will be different if this is the case; in which case, I would turn front fans right down (bottom one especially)

PS: Do experiment with case closed even if side fan not running.

PS: It tried everything when I had a similar issue. In the end, side fan, no rear fan. Front fan blowing out (was over powered by side fan anyway but I liked the light), then removed top fan mod as that made zero difference. However rear fan raised my processor temperatures way up with side fan on but not off. In the end chose bigger fan so rear fan had to go.
