Hi

Just bought a GTX950 and not sure if its a good card for gaming?
I'm new to gaming so need the best advice....

Yes, will be fine if you don't intend to be playing anything with the settings too high or past 1080p. Also depends which games you are playing, each game will be different.

Will be playing GTA V and COD Advanced Warfare for now....
Can it handle anything more then 1080p?

Why would you ask after the fact? Surely you'd ask for opinions before?

Well if you know your consumer right, you would know that one can always return anything you buy.....

No. this is complete abuse of the CPA. This is absurd. How can you buy something, having done no research on it and then return it? Let me guess though, you're gonna use the not fit for purpose excuse. I do hope they tell you to get slotted.

To be honest no graphics card actually handles more than 1080p, even a 980ti struggles on 1440p and requires turning down settings.
The best option would be to stay at 1080p on that card.
For 1440p you need 2 x 980ti in sli and even that doesn't get games like rise of the tomb raider to max details......

Impulsive buy. Besides "abuse" of the CPA....hahahaha go look up ABUSE.
unfortunately UNLIKE PANTS, YOU CAN'T TRY the card in the shop. Best way is to try it out for yourself....

The thing is there are thousands or resources online which will tell you exactly what you want to know (like the article I posted). If you had just done a little bit of research beforehand you would have known this card is no good for >1080p.

OP was too damn lazy to do any homework and thought his stingy ass would get away with buying an entry level card and expecting the world from it

YouTube "Learn how to swim" and tell me if you can swim.....
The net can tell you it's capabilities but people that have experience with cards are better research or even hands on approach can get you answers....

Unfortunately I'm at work so can't be hands on so someone here just might have played around with it....
So why not ask?

I think the main point was why not first ask then buy, will save yourself and the retailer a lot of effort.

Not sure what you wanted me to see. The CPA does not cover buyers remorse - nor should it. If you had researched the GPU and found that fulfilled your requirements, but then you got a dud or a massively underclocked version, then, yes. It would be a case for the CPA.

Suppose that depends on the returns policy of where you bought from. Personally I still hope they tell you to F-off.

Common advice:
what's your use case/preferences?
What type of games do you want to play and at what type of settings? If you don't know the common settings (e.g. 1080p/60FPS) do a bit of research first.

Better advice:
Taking aforementioned into account, what are the specs of your system? Does your cpu and ram cover the requirements? What is going to potentially bottleneck? Does your PSU cover the power requirements? Do you understand the capability of your rig? Did you do your research?

Best advice:
Do your own research (e.g performance comparisons, performance to value reviews, etc), then discuss/seek opinions before you buy and waste time and money.

@tmaq that's a really dick attitude. See this scenario, which mimicks yours. I'll just change the name from TmaQ to, say, IdioT:

IdioT: "Hi guys, I just bought a Polo Vivo and I was wondering if it'll go 400km/h?"
HelpfulGuy: "You just bought it and you ask now?"
IdioT: "LOL yes, because if it can't I can just return it, that's what the CPA is for!"
HelpfulGuy: "No it's not. Why didn't you research it online before buying? Check it's top speed?"
IdioT: "Because it was an impulse buy, go look up some random and useless thing on the internet!"

See the pattern? You can VERY easily check the performance of a card online before buying. Hell I can predict within 5% accuracy the FPS you'll achieve in any new game by comparing your PC's specs with other user's computers online - there are millions of them.

I hope the store chases you out when you try to return the card.

What FPS do you consider acceptable? 980ti 60FPS+ @1440p Tomb Raider.
