It's from the east, but not Eastern Europe. Surprisingly, one of those European brands you quote should point you in the right direction though ;)

Bugger now you have me looking at Eastern European cr@p that's based on a Renault 4 or equivalent Citroen....and getting nowhere!@ :(

Weird story - back in the 20's Alfa had been competitive in racing, but never quite winning, and then one of the drivers painted a "lucky shamrock" on his car and won the race. It's been part of their history ever since then, and is now the sign of the "racing/sports" model of that particular range. Quafrofiglio actually means Four Leaf (clover)

A little trivia: Pao is a Chinese word refering to the meeting place of Mongolian nomads...
