Hi mbp... It is a 6 year old HP lappie :D It is one of 2 nx7010's I own. Not a single problem with them in 5 years. sigh. I doubt it is a thermal issue, as this morning it BSOD 45 seconds into boot. I restore from an Acronis image then all seems to be fine. Then 5 hours later I move the mouse, click on a link and BSOD. Mem test is clean. I have other self-booting diags to run... just takes so much time! I have a feeling it is the HDD controller or discreet VGA chip.

It dies instantly without an event log. So nothing to read. I have done a fresh install on XP and also there, win32k.sys is corrupt and no-go after a while, or it reboots into low-res VGA mode, then BSOD.

I will be getting the other nx7010 back from a family member on Monday... so will swap things around then and try and identify. *sigh*.

It has served me well and has been a loyal appliance! It shall be missed if what I suspect is true. Time to shop for components for it or take the plunge and replace....

BUT, I am derailing this thread! Yeeeeks. Sorry blokes. Off to find my diags utils....

:(
Ja, trial/error swapping bits will do the trick. BSOD's are SOD's to troubleshoot. There is a way to turn on the reporting - i.e. prevent the reboot after error... will google in a min.

Fazda, sorry I pulled it and will post again after Barfly :)

I have been away for a day and you guys have a helluva of a party with lots of confusion all over. No more drinks, only coffee to sober up.;):D:D

Thanks stokkies...perhaps you can post a picture...we are having a power cut tomorrow from 6am to 7 pm, so I won't be around!!

For now my money is on Maserati.

Will check out your CotM clue, thanks stokstert.

Edit: or maybe not. I thought it looked a bit like a Maserati Merak or Bora, but no.
