This PC has XP, 160GB, with a 30GB partition. How would I go about installing Windows 7 (Professional) on the 30GB partition, without temparing data on the XP one. Need a guide.

I've done this before with other OS's. Just put the Windows 7 CD in boot from it and install it on the separate partition. Normally the installation takes care off the boot loader stuff and gives you a selection of which OS you want to boot into automatically.

But I'm sure there's lots of info on the net.
LifeHacker.com is normally pretty good, maybe check this out.

EDIT:
AS an aside note, this type of thing should probably be in the Software forum. The "techies" don't normally post in the Development section.

To Install Windows 7 on a partition that has already been created, simply pop the Windows 7 install disk into the computer, boot up from the DVD (most computers will ask you if you want to, but if it doesnt go to your BIOS and change the boot priority to DVD/CD First.) it will say Windows is Loading Files, after which it will boot up into a normal windows looking install, when it asks you where you want to install it, simply select the 30Gb partition, i mean seriously its not rocket science...

oh and once you have done this, install EasyBCD if you somehow cant boot back into XP, but it should work
if you are unable to boot into xp:
boot into windows 7
install or download EasyBCD
select add and Remove entries
add an entry for Windows XP

presto it should work!
you may also want to install iReboot its a small program that sits in the taskbar, and allows you to choose an OS to boot into...

if you are still having problems, pm me or invite me on xfire: unfairlyjudged

Thanks for the info... Realised later, that I chose the wrong sub-forum.

Thanks. Scared that something bad might once again happened, in fact two times. This I installed Windows on the main partition, and kept data on the 30GB one formatted it (the main, not the partition) when I was finally in, I clicked the drive, and it showed some error, when I googled it, downloaded dozens of software to salvage the data/fix the corrupt drive, no luck, then was told to send it, my hard drive, to the HD Recovery guys, which would cost a money. The 2nd time I formatted also did this.
