HAPPY HAPPY :D

Just gotten Guild Wars to run on WINE on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit - haven't had time to play a full session, but it starts up and I have travelled a few places without hassle.

Am not expecting any problems playing ... , as I spend most of the time at my computer in Linux, it is nice not having to reboot to WIN7 to play Guild Wars ... :D:D:D

Awesome. Let us know how it goes. I use to enjoy Quake Wars under LINUX a lot - the performance was awesome and not having to worry about a damn anti-virus scanner chewing up resources.

One of the many reasons I run mostly in Linux, is to not have the always present virus threat, hanging over my head, as anti-virus, anti-malware, etc. are always playing the "catch up game" ...

Will let you know later ... , when I should have the opportunity to play ... :)

Well, I just finished 2+ hours of playing, nary a glitch ... :) :D

Just don't minimize it, rather exit and log out. If you don't it locks up the desktop solid. :( A small price to pay to otherwise play Guild Wars without having to boot back into MS Windows. :D

Must admit, this I have always thought of as a lame excuse to run Linux :-) Gamer's usually have pretty performance good computers anyway :-)

Great time waster when you Have to reload your system from scratch, not to mention scanning 2x 2terrabyte HDD's, having a good performing system helps, but HDD's are still the slowest part of your computer.

Agreed. Can't wait to get a good performing SSD in about March... just when Shogun 2 Total War comes out.

Bugger, the latest update to WINE, broke Guild Wars.

Haven't had time to find out why. :(

BTW. Am now at Lion's Arch

Great :-) Errr, well not great on the "breaking" of GW, but reaching LA. :-)

Ja, Well, No, Fine ... , might have time to sort that out the weekend.

Did some running with henchmen and got to Eye Of The North and also Divine coast.

Is anyone still playing? I've been trying on/off to get through EotN for a while now, but there is nobody else around and you can only do so much with henchies when trying to fight narly mutated earthworms.

Don't know, I only got there lateish, last night ... , still got a lot of other things to do in Prophecies, Factions, I just started, and have yet to start Nightfall ...

I would suggest playing through one or two of the other campaigns and aquiring heroes. Unless you don't have Nightfall? I play with Heroes, and consider them more valuable than most players would be that I would pick up while waiting for a quest/mission. Of course, you may prefer the social mixing that comes from playing in groups.

Just by getting to EoTN, (via Prophecies) I got 2x Heroes ... , not played Nightfall yet, will probably have to do so to get the other 2x heroes that are missing tho ...

Ja I've got the whole array of heroes, but when I played in the days of old, most of it was with other players, and I served as a handy healer. I run away from rabbid bunny rabbits really well, see. With heroes, I find that a tank-type role is best, but I'm utterly useless at playing one. I've done well untill some dungeon mission with a big worm that just pwns me to -60 in less that that many seconds.
Maybe I should can it and find some other storylines to follow in the meantime.

Maybe, you can, better equip your Heroes ... , not bumped into that worm yet myself ...

Am playing an ELE/Monk

Well, as far as I am concerned, Heroes are thee end all of most problems. Once you get to a point where you have played the game long enough and understand the skill system, spent time playing with builds, and actually using different builds with different Hero combinations, you will own 95% of areas. For many, heroes are considered a game killer as they remove the need in many instances for group human play. Others will say, "thank god for heroes", as they don't have to play with other human cluless idiots they pick up along the way. So, as you progress through GW, you will see how powerful heroes are. A few weeks ago, a friend started a new character in Factions, and we basically did an all-day "run", and with my 3 heroes, the two of us completed the entire campaign in a single day. Believe me, invest time in heroes and builds for heroes, you won't be sorry. :-)
