Should you not find it at a local retailer, try take2 or kalahari.net. I was able to get my copy from my local CNA, but this was DBN.
128K ISDN should work perfectly. The 1GB gets downloaded over the space of a week or two. (Well, I guess it would be faster than that if you play day and night, therefore visiting all the areas in a shorter time.)
I have heard of people doing a couple of GB's over a weekend on ISDN, so cannot see how GW will stress it.
One benefit however of buying it from a shop is that you get the booklet etc.

If the download bothers you, I can give you the game resource file on DVD. That is what I did for my wife when she started playing. She bought a game key online and installed the small client. Then just copied my big resource file over her small starter on and started palying, without needing any big downloads.

mccrack go and try Look & Listen in Canal Walk last i was there they had the game on their shelves for R299. If they dont have anymore ask them for i am sure they will get you one if you ask.
