Hi Spek, you can learn from the www; about 10 years ago, when I had adsl, I downloaded chord charts, music copies & music ebooks and have self taught myself & my younger son. You need determination & grit to do it yourself. You can buy an acoustic 2nd hand from pawn shop or music shop - buy electronic tuner from someone like Marshalls. They even have begineer music books. Once you know chords, can strum a little, maybe play a few favourite songs, then take lessons!

The problem with learning by oneself is you pick up bad habits.. then when you eventually wind up being taught by a teacher they have to "undo" the bad technique

This is so true with any instrument. I regret teaching myself how to play drums. Bad posture and technique have buggered up my wrists.

Well I speak from experience... after buggering around for years on a guitar was all cool, then when I went to music school was being taught the proper way to fret and to hold the instrument, that's when the pain started...
