Gun dealer faces racketeering charges

Police investigators are unravelling an intricate syndicate that channelled guns to gangsters around Cape Town, and their latest breakthrough has led to the arrest of a Gauteng arms dealer who was charged in Bellville on Friday.

I hope this type of activity is the exception with gun dealers. I wonder how many murderers they've assisted?

Alan had nothing to do with any guns to criminals. At worst, they were possibly saving collectors items from destruction and putting them back on the system. There is a witch hunt right now to convince the public the cops are doing something about gangs, and they are going to take down anyone they can, aside from the gangs themselves, to show they are doing something.
They don't like gun dealers, collectors or legal gun owners, and will always try and portray them as the bad guys. Couple this with the fact that this guy was raided a few weeks ago, and after taking the cops to court they were forced to give him back all his guns. Now they are trying even harder.
I am not saying there weren't any shady deals or things done that should not have been...and they should face the full might of the law for anything illegal they did, I agree 100% But don't believe everything you read in the media.

Well they've got a pretty strong case against his co-accused Christiaan Prinsloo - he was observed taking boxes of firearms meant for destruction to his house in Vereeniging, and they were known to have a relationship given that Prinsloo was observed visiting Raves' on numerous occasions.

And when Raves' was raided earlier this year in March, they found 10000 rounds of live ammunition hidden under a pool table, and confiscated a number of firearms. OK, so he's a gun collector, but "33 of the firearms confiscated had altered serial numbers, no serial numbers and one had a laboratory number."

He succeeded in getting the search warrant overturned, but the cops kept those 33 firearms for ballistics. I think it's a pretty safe bet to assume that ballistics has been completed, and your friend now has a lot of explaining to do...
