Cape Town - Research done by Gun Free South Africa shows that more than a thousand coloured people have died over five years as a result of legal guns in the hands of gangsters acquired because of corruption in the police force.

“The retrospective study looked at gun murders and non-gun murders in the Western Cape province between 1994 and 2013, reviewing all homicide cases at Cape Town’s two forensic pathology service facilities in Salt River and Tygerberg,” said the spokesperson of Gun Free South Africa, Sara Chitambo.

She said additional new research recently published in the South African Medical Journal helped people to understand more about gun violence.

The research examined the impact of the changes in national gun laws and the enforcement thereof over this 20-year period. The study aimed to find answers to the question of whether changes in the number of legal and illegal guns in a community affect how many people are shot and killed.

Gun Free South Africa are hypocrites. They continually push for "gun amnesties" where only people with licensed firearms hand in unwanted firearms. SAPS are supposed to destroy these firearms, but end up selling them to gangs in WC.
GFSA is, therefore, to blame for each and every murder committed with an amnesty firearm.

And guess what? They are busy trying to push for another firearm amnesty. They tried last year, but it was thrown out by Parlament because the correct procedures were not followed. Now they want to follow the correct procedure to get an amnesty planned, then scare law-abiding firearm owners to hand in their firearms, which will then be sold by corrupt SAPS members to the nearest criminal.
 
Really a bit of an own goal... they were heavily involved in the development of the FCA of 2000, which was only started to be implemented in 2004, and they are basically saying the overly burdensome rules they help put in place don't stop people illegally obtaining guns.

But again selectively quoting "facts" and leaving out key information. So 1000 people from 2007-2013 killed because of illegal guns, how many in the 10 years of the study before? I guess they don't want to quote those to show how miserable their FCA baby failed.

“Reports of police misconduct and corruption in the leakage of legal guns into gangster hands on the Cape Flats supports the finding from the research that 1002 coloured people were shot and killed between 2007 and 2013 as a result of guns leaking into Cape Town through illicit channels,” Chitambo said.

Guns obtained illegally through police corruption are not suddenly legal.

Seriously WTF? By that reasoning, if I go buy cocaine from the police illicitly, it's suddenly legal for me to have it?
 
But then GFSA like scoring own goals.

And death by guns happens more with guns than with knives.

Apart from stating the obvious, what is this headline useful for?
 
GFSA also likes to use graphs to show how the Firearms Control Act of 2000 helped reduce our murder rate between 2000 and 2006. Only thing is, that law only came into effect in 2004. So somehow they claim that the implementation of the law retroactively reduced murder. I think they broke the space-time continuum.
