Johannesburg - The ANCYL in Gauteng has criticised former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's "state capture" report for making no mention of "white monopoly capital," the "true capturers" of the economy.
Provincial chairperson Matome Chiloane on Thursday said the report was a ploy to tarnish the reputations of the Gupta family and Eskom CEO Brian Molefe.
"White monopoly capital built its wealth through the state funding projects of the Broederbond," Chiloane said.
"A focus therefore on individuals who don't even own 1% of the economy is suspicious and can be regarded as a ploy to defocus us from the real capturers."
Chiloane said the report was tantamount to focusing on "pickpockets", meaning the Guptas, while leaving "serial killers" to roam free.
The league defended Molefe, calling him one of the country's "best and dedicated technocrats".
Call for review of report
"His reputation and work ethic speaks volumes for itself, and the turnaround he's brought at both Transnet and Eskom are but clear indications of this.
"Society thanks him for ridding us of load shedding which the country was plagued with."
Molefe's commitment to transformation, like that of SABC group executive for corporate affairs Hlaudi Motsoeneng, was bound to make him "enemy number one," he said.
Chiloane accused Madonsela of "unfair play", saying she did not even bother to invite Molefe to give an account.
"We stand firmly behind Mr Molefe's constitutional right to be heard and call on the new Public Protector to review the shoddy one-sided report as compiled and ensure fairness takes place."
