Dead in here the last bit it seems. So to add some spice to the whole thing, what you guys think about the mention of the new expansion and the next GW2 installment.

I wanna try and source the PCGamer with the new Mini-Pet included.

I'm looking forwards to different race types. I know GW's different classes all have their own models etc unlike WoW, which only has different race models. But it really needs the whole races thing. Which is supposedly coming with GW2.

I also like the idea that they will more or less be previewed in GW:EN and actually be playable in GW2.

It's a teaser to get you all excited about what it can and will be like when the actual GW2 comes out. Playing with the new races.

Anyone following the fan forums after the PC Gamer publication will no doubt know the absoloute uproar it caused amongst the fan base.

1 of the biggest cons is that your current chars becoming null & void. Those 2000hrs + hrs i personally sunk into the game wasted.

I think it's kinda short sighted of them. Why introduce races into the games as opposed to Classes, they could have achieved the same effect
by giving you your standard classes, but letting you choose what race you want to be. Much like a Char Mesmer, or Tengu Warrior.

The "instanced persitence" .... lol .... why bother going halfway on each side, persitence will build the community, WoW proves this, why try to re-invent the wheel here?

After the GW2 specs they could see the outrage in the community, ignoring it will just be an extended middle finger to the fan base.

I just fail to see the positives. They could have repackaged the same game with a new engine, new mechanics and kept the loyal players happy.

New Age Gaming (either May or June) will have it, but we get to wait a little while longer. Check http://www.guildwars.com/press/mediapartners.php

Not quite .. or not entirely. Using the Hall of Achievements in GW:EN you'll be able to preserve some of your achievements (including your name). Don't have all the details right now though.

Especially the way PCGamer ran the headline on its cover , GW Cancelled. Maybe I should change the heading of the thread to that as well hey ?

Because the point you raise is tantamount to that. Whatever you had , you had not carrying it into the new GW2.

I'll respond to the rest of your post too...

See above. I think it would be silly if you could take your character 100 years into the future, missing out on all that's new about the world. It's a new game with new everything. The main reason they're doing this is for a fresh start as well. Imagine the nightmare for the developers having to port all the GW items and skills as well as all the new things they want to put in GW2. There's already an insane amount of items and plenty of duplication, with more being added with each campaign.

Personally I like the idea of expansions. It creates a more unified core.

This I kind of agree with, but it remains to be seen how this will work. I imagine the story will change based on your race, where you start from, etc, so this could add replayability and make it more interesting. Remains to be seen if Tengu will run faster, Charr have more armor, etc. Which I wouldn't neccesarily agree with because it would make creating your character too complex. One of the things I like about GW is the flexibility of your character - pretty much all but your primary profession can be changed as you like so you can experiment to find a build you like.

Killstealing. Having to wait 10 minutes or stand in a queue to kill a boss. The ability to rez your teammates. Yes, persistence is good, but only in some areas.

After the GW2 specs they could see the outrage in the community, ignoring it will just be an extended middle finger to the fan base.

I disagree. It's been, what, 3 weeks since the Inquirer article? There hasn't been that much outrage and of that most of it was alarmist "OH NOES, CHANGE!" crap. ANet have done an awesome thing with Guild Wars. They know what people like and they know what they want to create. Guild Wars was a stepping stone and I look forward to Guild Wars 2 as being that much closer to what they were aiming to achieve in the first place.[/quote]

I just fail to see the positives. They could have repackaged the same game with a new engine, new mechanics and kept the loyal players happy.

Indeed, and although GW has aged and evolved extremely gracefully, ANet has decided it's time for something revolutionary. And I agree.

Fair enough Eremos and thanks for your well written response.

However i am not referring to Eye of the North but GW2.

I followed the main fan forums after PC Gamer mag got out, not the Inquirer article.

The story had not need been set 100yrs in the future .... there ... problem solved. With the cap lvl being increased to 100+ it would give players who have supported them through previous chapters a head start into GW2. Personally, a Hall to view my achievements from previous chapters? How often u gonna view that and what would it's usefulness be.

I do however agree with you on the point of killstealing.

Without wittling on too much here is the jist of it:

They have created a successfull game, fair enough they want to move forward, but at the same time they must be loyal to what made it good, this includes not discarding those players who invested tons of hours into the game all so that they can carry a mini pet across.

lol .... "Ohs NOES" .... i really hate that :D

PS & EDIT: I do like the fact that jumping, climbing and swimming will be in GW2 .... see ... it's not all bad :D

Well, time will tell what will truly happen with GW2 when and as more details are released, but I am not overly pleased. Anything but.

I am going close on 3000 hours now and to be told, nah tough, it's gonna end ... kind of puts a damper on things :(
The Hall of Monuments in GW2 is very little acknowledgement of your achievements and time invested in GW1. It is not enough IMO.

GW1 is still very young in terms of age, there are MMORPGS running on 9-10 years and still going strong with new content releases and such.

GW1 is not even 2 years old yet. Granted, 2 years is still a long way off for GW2, but why should one still put in the time on GW1 if you won't see any of that in GW2? Oh, but wait, you can see your GW1 char as a minipet in GW2! pfft, that really makes me very happy

ANet have built a great franchise, they can accomplish anything, even a conversion (in a manner of speaking) from your GW1 char to a GW2 char. This is possible. They are smart chaps!
Whether they will be accommodating, is another thing.

Once again, I will reserve final judgement when I know more definite details, but I am hoping for some 'good' news.

Yes, I know, gaming is fun, and I have enjoyed every minute of playtime in GW1. I base the different responses from people on their character and personality.... I am very competitive and do things thoroughly, perfectionist some might say (very little people play GW1 as thoroughly as I do), this is probably why I feel like it was a complete waste of time for me at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, I love the news of the new GW2 and the revolutionary PvP and "instanced persistence" and leveling thing (as long as it is grind-free) and the no-monthly fee, it is just this one thing.....

If they have told me last year or 6-12 months ago, GW1 will cease to exist and GW2 will be a complete redesign, I probably would not have invested as much time as I have into GW1.

/endrant

piece :)

Well, when I stopped playing GW a few months ago (got bored, nothing left to accomplish) it was with the intention of playing again when new expansion came out. I however do not know if I will do that if we have to start all over again. Can someone pls link the article so I can see what its all about?

my thing is what about guys like me who only started playing GW nw

You'll be able to keep playing GW when GW2 comes out, if you so desire.

I don't see what the difference is between this and buying a game on release date or 2 years later (Except that the world of GW will likely be pretty barren once GW2 is released, but that's been the case with every new campaign, and for me a point in favour of having expansions rather than independent campaigns).

I wonder if we'll be able to go back to GW and keep working on titles for the hall of monuments, or if once you "redeem" those monuments you can no longer add to them.

You almost seem to be excited about this wonderful feature "Hall of Monuments" :p

lol, well, let me put it this way: I have no desire to bring my character from GW over to GW2, but even so it will be nice to have some recognition of invested effort.. and who can say no to exclusive items? :D

well, as some peeps have mentioned in the threads I have read, GW2 is still 2 years away and considering that GW1 isn't even 2 years old itself yet, means it is still some time off, so you can still accomplish quite a lot of things in GW1, till GW2 launches.

But the one question I have not seen answered to my satisfaction yet is what will happen ito support and content in GW1 when GW2 comes out....
Will they still support it (really)?
Will they still do updates to it?
or will they just leave it running for those that want to play it, this essentially means you will be stuck in a world all on your own, with no other peeps, or pugs (god forbid) ;)
Gaile has indicated they will support GW1, but the question remains, to what extent.

I cant wait to see what they do in GW2, probably will need a new pc just to run it haha

I actually only have Prophecies, ie, the original game, no expansions...

I stopped playing for a long time because i really overplayed it when i started because it was so much fun ^_^ hehe

Anyone still playing Prophecies? Or should I just get Factions and Nightfall?
