Hiya, I've googled around a bit and the gyms don't seem to list their prices on their sites. I'm trying to find out gym prices, more specifically in Cape Town Northern Suburbs. Cape Gate Virgin Active charges R339 a month on a 2 year contract - with vitality, you can get 80% off this price. That includes your spouse too. Does anyone know what the planet fitnesses and other gyms charge and if the charges are subsidised on any plan like vitality?

Both planet fitness and virgin have discovery vitality plans though i think the virgin gyms are nicer in some places.

Vitality price at virgin is about R80? for the local gym and R170? for the national access.. but remember the intial fee is like R750? or so.

Without a contract the gym prices are around 400 bucks which is quite shocking unless on contract but even then its quite high.

Yeah, its R400 on a 1 year contract or R340 on a 2 year contract. I don't think you can beat the virgin vitality price. Thx tho.

Go to hotels and ask them if their gyms are open to public.

I go to gym at Upper Eastside hotel and its R170 per month no contracts.

Vitality is 70 bucks single and 140 odd for all virgin gyms. Some virgin gyms are horrible and small.

claremont is ok.. lots of steps but it doesn't have all the equipment and in some instances one of certain things. i don't particularly like claremont.. uhm the canal walk one is cool.

I think you meant to say all Virgin gyms are horrible?

Nope they are not. The one in randburg for instance is just amazing. Massive with many machines, northgate is also decent but a couple others are very small. None them are rubbish. The randburg gym is insane i must admit.

Isnt it free on single and about R110 national, subject to an initial fee of R750.

Not that i know of, 70 bucks a month single and about 140 national. I paid an initial fee of 100 bucks.

Perhaps if you are on a big plan like full medical aid but i only have a hospital plan

Momentum health medical aid also subsidises your gym fee...I don't know how much cos I'm on the pedometer option where I get R300 a month as long as I walk 12000 steps a day for the month

Try shopping around a bit for the mom and pop gyms. You don't really need a huge workout area to get healthy. You can do just fine with a circuit training of weights and running machines/steppers/rowers/bicycles. My office gym is like r70/month but it's tiny - I think it's an acceptable tradeoff and I stay healthy enough.
