Hey guys

I had to bring some work home that I need to finish tonight This computer has been giving me a headache all day, so I would appreciate some advice.

First off, I can't just format this machine. It has customized stock-counting software, and the person who made this program will have to be flown in from Durban to reinstall it. Plus there are tons of important documents that have not been backed up. And the company is doing a year-end stock count tomorrow.

I asked what happened before this computer got stuck in the boot sequence, apparently the computer did a complete system freeze. It has been happening intermittently for a week now, but now the computer doesn't work at all, they decided to call the techie in

When I start up this machine, the computer gets stuck on the Windows logo screen. I have left it for an hour, and it was still stuck on that screen (the logo still flashes and fades). I can boot into all the safe modes flawlessly and done lots of stress tests on the hard drive and RAM without finding a problem, so I don't think it is hardware related. I have also scanned the drive in safe mode with an antivirus (AVG), and it didn't find anything.

I have tried to do a windows boot recovery, but the software says it doesn't find any problems. I have tried to do a Windows system restore, but I get an error message about Standard Bank's Rapport software is corrupted, and it won't load the restore.

I have fiddled with the msconfig settings, testing to see what happens, and nothing changed, no matter what I did. I also did the RegBack trick with config files, and that didn't make any difference either. I have also updated the BIOS, and that didn't make a difference either.

I have tried a sfc /scannow command, and it did come back to me with some corrupted files, but it couldn't fix any of them, maybe because I was in safe mode.

I am starting to think that a Windows Update or a driver has corrupted, and is now its messing up the Windows boot sequence (but changing msconfig didn't resolve anything). I am unsure what to do next. Do I start removing Windows Update one by one to see if it changes something? Or do I need to do something else?

I had the same issue about the "stuck at windows logo", turns out the hard drive was dying.

It's almost certainly a corrupt system file.
