So H1Z1 was released yesterday.

Did anybody take the plunge and purchase this Early Access title? First thoughts?

AFAIK, there's EU servers up and running, so one can only connect to US servers. What's the latency like?

Still contemplating whether to buy, seeing as it is in alpha, no local servers/support in near future, and not quite sure what Sony plans with their F2P business model.

The Steam store page is filled with people complaining about the Pay2Win nature of the game.

Another failure by SOE.

I'm not saying the nature of the game will change, but they said it's in Alpha.
One of the points stated how unbalanced the game is.... give it time.

If you want to jump in this early, you need to expect large problems.

What a pity, a properly done DayZ on a large scale could of been a lot of fun.

They specifically said they weren't going to introduce P2W into the game and the first thing people see on release is paid airdrops that give random supplies.

They're not off to a very good start.

well once the lag is sorted you got to fight off zombies and players to get the loot it takes 10 seconds to loot the crate, not going to be easy.

None of which is relevant to the play to win debate? The guy that paid got a crate drop nearby, the guy that didn't pay got nothing.

was watching a stream today the guy that paid for 3 crates got none, unless you in a clan, or the only one close to the crate its not going to be that easy. crates look more like a money sink to be honest.

edit: i do agree however there should'nt be weapons in the crates

It doesn't matter how unreliable or random the crates are. Point stands that SOE said they would not be selling equipment for real money. And now they are.

Refunds: http://www.reddit.com/r/h1z1/comments/2snhud/no_questions_asked_refund_policy/

EDIT: Some people saying you can refund it through Steam. "Go to your Account Details >> Store Transactions and there will be a little refund game green click button under H1Z1. Click that and it will refund the cost of the game into your steam wallet."

i realy think the pay to win is being exaggerated, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion so far its like a love child between dayz and rust, hopefully building will become more customisable in the future, but so far it dos'nt seem to bad. and you can refund till monday, so i will test and if i end up not liking it, i will refund.

It's not that the game is pay to win, there are plenty of games out there that are pay to win. I, like many others, don't enjoy those games but there are people that do.

The main issue that people have is that SOE blatantly said they will NOT sell guns, armour, etc. in their game. And then the game is "released" in early access and it has an element where you can buy guns.

It just reeks of a company trying to bull**** you into buying their game blindly with false promises. It's a good move by them to offer a refund, but I won't be surprised if many people get their refund and never look at the game again, regardless if it becomes any better or not.

Why the **** are they charging 20 euro for an alpha build of the game? Is Sony that desperate for money?

Pay money & useful gear (likely including weapons) gets delivered to you. Seems pretty pay to win to me..

Not at all.

You're not understanding and getting blown out of proportion by the community. Dodger explained it well. Just skip to 11m12s.

SOE dropped the ball. From being very clear it would not be a P2W game, they then introduce microtransaction related 'world events' with the emphasis on on the world event part.

It is still P2W regardless of how much harder they make it to firstly get to a drop or what the success rate is of finding a useful weapon.

You can make the plane fly longer, slower, make it more visible to other players to negate the P2W factor somewhat by giving others equal opportunity, but regardless its a P2W transaction technique and if there are very few players around, that player has a good chance of being rewarded for his donation etc.

Its a fundamental game decision which shouldnt change through alpha/beta/v1.0 etc.

Keep it to cosmetic items and itll be fine.
