I have posted something similar, but I just want to make sure..

For a H4950 GPU, what is the PSU wattage meant to be? Because currently I have an A-open 400W... But it doesn't have a 6-pin, so I was thinking of either getting a new PSU or just getting the converter at Matrx for like R60 (Which is like a total RIP OFF!!)

But people are saying that a "non" branded PSU cannot support such a GPU, so here I'm asking.. Is it ok, if I just get the converter? Or should I really have to another PSU... (The one I have in mind is: Odin 470 Gigabyte.)

Thanks

I have a Sparkle (generic) rated. 400watt, with a peak of 345watt. I use a converter to supply my 4850. Working smoothly for 6 month now without problems. Had 3870 before...

Rather get a new power supply like a coolermaster 460watt. Not expensive and worth it.

Didn't the graphics card come with the cable?

Check the sticker on the side of the PSU for the amp rating at +12v. You generally want ±20A+ for graphics cards that require extra power.

Also take a moment to think about the concept of skimping on such a crucial part of your system... Hopefully that'll get you to buy a proper branded PSU.

I have the XFX HD4850 and running fine on a 620w, rather just get a new branded psu, something nice like a Fantec

You can get a very good 400W Corsair PSU for about R550. Its will have all the connectors you need, and is at least 80% efficient unlike most PSUs for a similar price

I see..

Well I just got a Odin 470W Gigabyte... It seems to have everything.. And it looks pretty cool too :P

Thanks

You mean a Odin 400W? Not very good PSUs unfortunately.

Review, not really - best I can find right now though.

Taking a look at the sticker of the ODIN finally confirm our suspicions all along. While most brand name PSU are rated by their maximum combined wattage, the ODIN 470 W uses the possible peak as rating. This unit only manages 400W of continuous output. Another negative aspect are the two weak 12 V rails. 14 and 15 A is simply way too little.

Works fine!

So you have this PSU too?

Oh can I ask then, does you PSU, at the part where you plug the black cable, does it make "zat-ing" sounds? (Like you know when a plus isn't plugged in properly, it makes that sound?

Because mine does that.. When it starts up and sometimes when I scroll my mouse... I thought maybe there is something wrong with my PSU..

Anyway..
