Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I was curious as to how i can go about turning my old but decent enough laptop into a hackintosh. Im not very well versed with the mac world and I noticed at work design stuff is done on one. I"m used to windows. I have seen a guide for having Lion on my laptop and i have tried it out but had some slight issues at the final stages. Laptop heating up very fast as if the OS cannot regulate the heat emmision. The only mac apps I plan on using are illustrator, indesign, photoshop and final cut pro.
Seeing that loadshedding will be part of life for th enext two years i thought i'd look into a mac but thought if i can run mac on my pc i can have best of both worlds. Only miss out on the 8hr batttery life perk.
To sum it all up whats the best version of Mac OS to run and can anyone lead me to a guide and perhaps apps required. Or even inbox me if this kind of discussion is frowned upon here.
Oh and the laptop specs are

Dell Studio XPS 1645 (Late 2009 model)
Core i7 720QM (First Gen) Quad Core CPU
8GB Ram DDR3
320GB HDD
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4670

Yeah, I used tonyMac website... they make it pretty easy and you can post any issues on the forum to get it solved relatively quick... once you got the process down tho its pretty easy from there should you ever have to do it a second time...

I did a hackintosh on my desktop PC to use mac and then eventually i bought a mac as in my case the drivers were a bitch with my particular build and it was too much of a hassle after it crashed

best of luck to you tho

I checked out the link. It linked all the parts that can be used for a hackintosh and work right out of the box without much configuration. My situation is I have a laptop that is pretty much set so i'm stuck to the parts that are in it. Can i reliably run mac os softwares on my laptop given its age. Or is it unrelaistic to say for example final cut pro on a windows pc. How about smaller apps like photoshop and illustrator? I also read about some custom distros like "niresh yosemite v2 and alike". How do these compare to trying to install a pure vanilla mac osx version with the tools online? This will make it easier to know what is required and how to go about getting them and setting up everything.

Alright. I will dig deeper and see what I can find. I had success once but that was with lion. Now I want to try mavericks or yosemite if possible and since the laptop is somewhat old there is little info about success with similar or same hardware. But will try out various avenues first before I give up.

Ugh tried this before, not really worth the effort

Agreed. Been through unibeast, zone and self made iso; just too many issues. Rather get real deal or go with a nix distro.

Currently on Arch and really enjoying it. If you want something more simple go mint, kbuntu or ubuntu...

It was worth it for me on desktops. Worked really well. Laptops on the other hand was a nightmare.
