I am looking for advice for building a hackingtosh, Whats the best laptop to get to achieve this for under 10k?

Even a desktop will do.

Thanks

Dear OP, its "hackintosh"
And Google is your friend... the information is there.

Let me guess, you know absolutely nothing about OSX and want to learn? Then you are going to have a very hard time and end up telling everyone how **** OSX is because you could never make it work properly.

Spend R4k more and buy the real deal Macbook Pro, or spend R2000 less and get a Mac Mini.

Or just stick to Windows. Linux is another option as well. Linux is free and should work on most desktops/laptops anyway.

Getting a hackintosh working just right will be very frustrating, I completed a Mountain and Mavericks hackintosh, all working including usb on an Acer 5630Z laptop....but many grey hairs later its not really worth it.

If the OP is willing to work with a virtual machine, that is also an option.

You can get a second hand macbook easy with 10k and you will be way happier with it.

Its really a slog getting things working. I spent 2 weeks with it and there were a few niggly things that I could never get working. Waking from sleep, mouse intermittently not work. Eventually gave up and went back to Win :)

Mac OS X on real hardware = PAINFUL
Mac OS X in a specifically patched VMWare Player installation = USABLE, works fine, save for one or two niggles.

@OP - buy the best windows laptop you can, then spend the difference between the windows machine and whatever Mac you were considering on Lotto tickets - money better spent.

Rather buy a second hand 2012 MacBook Pro (has USB 3.0 and HD 4000 graphics), you can pick these up for about R7,000 - R8,000. Use an external screen and keyboard and mouse (definitely get the Apple Bluetooth ones if you can (especially the Magic Trackpad, which will change your life, unless you need a mouse)).

Over time upgrade the MacBook Pro to 16GB RAM and an SSD (or SSHD).

Thank us later.

Or don't stick to Windows, and don't even consider Linux. I used Windows for 92% of my life and always hated Apple and OS X.

Until I owned one.

Or buy a Mac and dump Windows for a superior Unix-based operating system, and never look back.

When I see PostmanPot I know it's gonna be apple, audi, mweb & plasma, everything else is a load of crap.

Hackingtosh

When I see PostmanPot I know it's gonna be apple, audi, mweb & plasma, everything else is a load of crap.

Apple - Most popular high end smartphones, best quality laptops, best designed products, etc. iDevices and Macs and all Apple products integrate beautifully making life easier. Much thought behind the products and OSes.

Audi - Excellent value second hand buys, using the most popular reliable VW engines and most other parts (VWs have the highest resale value for a reason), with tons of info online for modding and fixing, due to being popular. Nothing against BMW, Merc, and anything Japanese.

MWEB - Perhaps the most consistent and reliable ISP in SA, lowest latency, it just works, always. Not for downloaders so there are very few on the network, great for us, not great for those who think good internet means ability to download the Internet 24/7. High tier ISP operating their own bandwidth so they can tweak things for you and they have many tools to resolve issues unlike resellers. Best telephone support and service in SA.

Plasma - Superior to LCD in every way except in unfavourable bright rooms and using TVs as PC monitors. A tragedy for us consumers that they've been phased out.

Can you blame me?

Back on topic, a laptop is a pain in the ass to load OS X on but a desktop is a much better option. The OP should consider a desktop if they are determined to install OS X on non-Apple hardware or as suggested several times, buy a real Mac.

+1. IMO the only time Hackintosh is good is for putting together a gaming one.

Here's an example of a good deal: http://carbonite.co.za/f47/lenovo-t440-macbook-air-13-3-a-109922/?highlight=macbook

2012 MacBook Air 13" for R7000.

I would go with a 2012 MBP, should be slightly cheaper with the ability to upgrade RAM and HDD (to SSD/SSHD) unlike the Air. (Air's SSD can be upgraded if one finds the correct proprietary SSD of course, I think Transcend do them locally but $$).
