For the past year or so I've had a very big problem with dry hair, but I've never bothered too much with it because I kept my hair cut short. Now I'm growing it out a bit and it's becoming a major issue. My hair frizzes like crazy the moment it goes dry and I can't even risk walking around in wind otherwise it just stands up in all directions.

Now I've been looking around for tips for dry hair, but everything is either very weird or conflicting. Some people told me to wash my hair with baking soda, others told me to rub egg yolk in it (yuck). I've been washing my hair every morning without fail since high school so I'm trying to skip to washing every second day only to see if I might not be depriving my hair of natural oils, but this makes my hair feel really disgusting on every second day, so does anyone have any tips for fixing dry hair?

You need an anti-frizz shampoo, go see a professional hair salon and don't try and use off the shelf products from your local Clicks.

Look at something like this: http://www.hannon.co.za/p0201AFEXTRSH250/EXTREME-Anti-frizz-Shampoo-250ml.aspx

Interesting, I also always had this problem. Then again...just doing the military style hairstyle nowadays makes this a non-issue for me.

I tried something similar to that called Avon Frizz control two weeks ago:

Apparently it's also only available to order from hair dressers, but I was given it by a friend. The thing is, it solved my dry hair issue, but made my hair feel sticky and hard.

I'll see if I can't get my hands on Hannon's product, though. Lots of people recommend his products so it should be worth a try. Thanks.

Reason why better hair salons don't sell Avon and while professional stylists dont use the products.

Also the cost & brand of hair salon products is no indication od results and that is why you need to seek a professional as they need to recommend the correct product for your hair. Just because Hannon might work on one persons hair does not mean it will work for you.

My wife owns a hair salon and every two months there is a new product at home and I've seen some R400 shampoos not give the results of R150 ones on my hair but for my wife the more expensive one works better.

You perhaps have eczema?

Welcome back, glad to see it was only a temp even they i don't much like you :D.

eczema no what he is describing is dry hair. Dove has just released a conditioner combo that will take that standing hair and keep it straight and moisturize your hair. How much water do you drink? I saw the advert yesterday for dove. Exactly what you stated with your hair going almost like static. Look for the latest dove adverts.

http://www.dove.co.uk/en/Products/Hair-Care/Dry-or-Damaged/Nourishing-Oil-Care-Shampoo.aspx

Look it seems that is for females but what is the worst that can happen? can't find anything that deals with frizziness and dry hair for men.

Eczema can cause it, so it's worth checking out.

I am not discounting it but it would be appear to be what many women suffer from. Frizzi dry hair. Check out all avenues. try one, itf it fails try another on and so you go on your journey to finding the solution and maybe alf is right and it is eczema.

I actually had to google what eczema was :)o). Thankfully, I don't have it.

I think it's just my hair that's at fault. I'll definitely check out the Dove shampoo as well. It should be available at my Pick 'n Pay, so I can get my hands on it easily enough. I see it contains Argan oil, which I've heard is recommended for dry hair as well.

This whole topic might sound a bit of a strange thing for a guy to be bringing up, but my hair is really becoming a problem for me. I don't want to keep wearing it almost buzz-cut, but even just walking out into a light breeze with longer hair can leave me with disastrous results. Some days when I'm going somewhere I actually have to wear a beanie just for the walk to and from the car. :p

I use this, and it's really good. Have "horrid" frizzy dry curly hair. A bad combo, but found that Dove Nourishing Oil works best for my hair. Even my hairdresser noticed a real difference :)

Yes, I am a girl, but sure it will work for guys too ;)

It's available everywhere - PnP / Clicks / Dis-Chem / Spar / Checkers... normally about 60 bucks. But there are often good specials like buy one get one free :)

I bought the Dove shampoo suggested in this thread and it works wonders. My hair is a lot more manageable and it even looks a lot better. Thanks for the suggestion!
