Morning Everyone

I have little experience with half-bridge routers and I am hoping i can get a little advice from you guys.

The router i currently have is a MEGA 105 WR, which does do half-bridging and is generally quite easy to use. It is however slightly unreliable, because even with the latest firmware installed the web interface freezes sometimes and i have to restart the router.

I do like NetGear and they have a good track record with me but the most commonly used NetGear router the DG-384UK (and Wireless version) only have Routed of Bridged mode.

I was hoping somebody here knows of a NetGear router that is capable of making 2 PPPoE Connections at the same time. Any other brand will do aswell, as long as they are available from South Africa.

;)

I have an ol' DG-834G v3 which does actually support bridged mode, the only problem is you have to enable it each time you reset the router. Requires SSH'ing into the router and typing in a string.

Not a huge deal really, and apart from that, it works great :)

Hey CyBeRmAn

The D-Link DSL-2500U supports half-bridge mode. Have to restart it every once in a while, but other than that it gets the job done.

Or update the firmware,or visit the hidden mode.html page :P

Netgear DG834 can do half-bridge. They call it PPPOE Relay and it can be enabled from the standard web interface. Look in WAN configuration section.

Mmm, tried updating the firmware once and the ADSL stopped working. Didn't know enough to try troubleshoot it, so just put the old firmware back on.

Yeah, done that but then I still have to do the following each time I reset the router:

http://192.168.0.x/setup.cgi?todo=debug (enables debug mode)
Telnet in to the router via putty and type: brctl addif br0 nas0

No idea why I'm doing these steps, but if I don't multiple PPPoE connections don't work :P Perhaps the DG834's after v3 get it right?

had it working since v2,can only imagine yours is PMSy :P

I don't want PPPoE Relay, 2 PPPoE connections need to be made from the router (IF my idea of PPPoE Relay is correct that allows users to connect with multiple PPPoE Dialers) .

As i mentioned before the MEGA (Billion) router does have the capability, but is unreliable in the web interface.

D-Link looks like a good place to look. Thanks for the feedback guys

Any Billion router can handle half bridge and as for 2 pppoe connections you will have to look at the Billion Biguards they are awesome.
