I am currently sharing my dads 100WR router using a cable. He has a 1gb telkom account which is nowhere near enough for me to share with him,so i want to use my own,but he doesnt want me changing any router settings.I read that this router supports half-bridge mode, which should allow me to dialup on my pc and bypass his account.Ive tried dialing up with the telkomsa guest account but i get

error 691

the connection was denied because the username and password you specified is invalid or you do not have permissions.

I hope the account details are right,i saw a thread here saying guest1@telkomsa.net pass:guest1 or guest@telkomsa.net pass:guest,i tried both.

Is it possible to dialup in half bridge without changing any settings on the router or have i setup the connection wrong on my PC.Thanks

Yes... it is possible.

Depends on the specific 100WR that u have. My cousins one seemed to be in half bridge mode straight out the box. U need to get hold of an account where u are sure of the login credentials if u r gonna test properly :)

What account do u plan on purchasing for yourself - what isp? How much bandwidth do u plan on using? What kind of line do u have? (i.e. ur pops ain't gonna be too thrilled if u use up the entire pipe -assuming u r on 384k)

well,we sharing 384 line, but he hardly uses the net,few hours a nite. Was hoping to get a mweb uncapped account or maybe just a few gb's from afrihost to start.
I logged into the router from my pc,i dont know why i didnt think of that before, and the connection type is set to PPPOE,i have no idea if that is half bridged or what.

Oh, assuming u have the details for his telkom Do1 account, u can setup a dial up connection on your pc using those same credentials. The Do1 accounts do allow at least 2 concurrent connections, so u can use that to test. Also i am assuming u know how to do what I am suggesting. This might be the easiest before u start fiddling with router settings, which he doesn't want u to do anyways :p I don't have the 100WR myself so cant tell u offhand what the settings should be for half bridge mode.

One last thing, since u guys are sharing the line perhaps the easiest is to do away with his Do1 account alltogether and get a single uncapped account for the both of u. Why pay telkom any more than u need to! :)

At least Do1 is only an extra R47 per month over and above the R152 adsl access charge. Maybe once u get an uncapped account he might come to his senses. [edit: If u need more specific advice on the 100WR hopefully one of the other forumites can help u there, well better than i can :) ]

I have a telkom Do1 and it allows me to do 2 or even 3 concurrent connections. I often connect using the same account on my router as well as on a 2nd pc via dial up (when testing things like tonight where Seacom has been down and the telkom accounts have been acting up).

It should use the b/w from the dialup account but to be 100% sure, check the 'Status' of the dial up connection by double clicking the task tray icon on your task bar (assuming u have winXP). Then when u r surfing/downloading then the bytes received/sent should change as u do stuff.
