So im getting my 1st car soon, looking @ the half ton bakkies as i will be working part time for my dad picking up doors etc.

Looking @ 2nd hand corsa utility or ford bantam, have found some good deals on auto trader for 60000 +- what do you guys recommend?

I have a Bantam, so I might be biased. I'm very happy with mine. It's a 1.6 so the fuel consumption is a bit higher, if i was driving it daily i would take the 1.3. I choose the bantam because i prefered the rounded looks and didn't like the high corsa loadbin. Happy with it, no problems except the aftermarket aircons belt broke once at 46000km.

I've heard the guys are complaining that the Bantams are very lazy even the 1.6

I don't know what "lazy" means but I never had a problem towing a big trailer load to Warmbaths or pulling away at robots against other people, even my 1.3 Ikon (which as just a bantam sedan) is more than adequate.

He can go for the Corsa if he like the looks, but I don't think their engines as totally as solid as the Bantam rocams. I don't mean they arent good, just slightly less solid. Parts and services on either shouldn't be too hard to get or too expensive.

Drive both and decide from there.

The Corsa 1.4i has 66kw and the 1.8i has 79kw
The Bantam 1.3 has 55kw and the 1.6 has 70kw

Based on this I would take the more powerful Corsa

The rocams like to rev so the bantam is very nippy as long as its not carrying a massive load. The 1.3i doesn't like going faster than 120KPH though..

Bantam 1.6 seems to be best.
Corsa's i've heard give loads of trouble.
The 1.3 Bantam is a bit "lazy", life you put it. (brother had one.)
