Half ton bakkie

Hi guys

I'm in the market for a second hand half ton bakkie costing no more than R70k.
It won't be my everyday car, more of a spare vehicle and used on weekends.
Theres not much choice available, seems like only bantam, corsa, np200 and strada
I want reliability and the lowest maintenance costs.
What would you choose?
 
I am also in a market for one for our courier business. I think an Opel Corsa is still the best. I drove a 2004 Corsa and I used to love it. I also had a Strada back in the days and I hated it with all my heart, Fiat service sucks as well and the service was more expensive that Opel.
 
Try and get hold of a Corsa 1.8 - better fuel consumption than the 1.4 as it doesn't need to be pushed as hard. The np200 16v isn't a bad option either. the 8v is pretty weak though...
 
Do corsa's handle mileage well?
I've never been a Opel/GM fan.
I've always been a ford fan, as I've owned 2 in the past and have been reliable.
 
Corsa all the way..

The bantam is a close second, but if you can get a Corsa Utility then you're good.

That's about it, unless you can find a Proton Arena or VW Caddy bakkie. I'm not sure if you can find an NP 200 for that price, as it's the newest of the lot, and launched around 2009. Maintenance would likely be high due to Renault parts. It is the biggest of the half tonners, and carries the biggest load. The Corsa is the most car like, and likely the easiest to find, I don't like that it feels like you need to rev the crap out of the 1.4 though. The Bantam isn't a bad bakkie, but I find it really cramped inside.

The Corsa is probably the best all rounder. Bantam's a bit cheaper, if you can fit in it, and don't need a big load box.

No, it isn't.

OP, if you can get the 16V Nissan in your budget, take it. It has taken over from the Corsa/Chev as the best half tonner. Just look at which half tonner companies use these days. Steer clear of the diesel however.

+1. The NP200 shares parts with the Renault Sandero which is manufactured locally at the Renault/Nissan Alliance factory in Roslyn, Just outside of PTA.

I know that they make them locally, from what I have read, European production of the Logan pick up has stopped. I just always assumed that Renault did expensive services. The NP 200 is actually better as a bakkie than the Corsa. The Corsa is nicer as a car though. The NP 200 is a great workhorse, I just hate how poor the conversion from LHD to RHD was. The wipers are on the wrong way, and the bonnet opening lever is on the passenger side.

Since the OP won't be using it as a day to day car, the NP 200 is better for moving stuff around in. The load box is bigger, and is rubberised. The space behind the seats is also really great.
 
NP200's are scarce for R70k, and ones in that price range have high km's, so they won't be considered.
I'll look for a good condition corsa.
 
Bought myself a Ford Bantam 1.6i (2006) over the weekend with 110k kms on the clock, canopy, towbar and so on for R59km

Actually saw a 2011 1.3i for just over R70k
