Halp...can't sign into SMC modem setup ?????

I just bought a SMC 7904wbras-N Wireless modem to replace one with a dead port...but...I can get past the log on screen to the set-up screen. When you type in the password they have on the bottom of the modem, it just resets the sign-in page.
Using 192.168.2.1 as printed on the modem.
They have "smcadmin" as password and it is happy with that (anything else and it will say password invalid) but it refuses to go to setup.

Have you tried pushing the hard reset button in for a bit? Had a similar issue with my SMC a while back, that sorted it.
Just noted that the hard reset button will clear all/ any settings.

Yeap tried it in FF, Safari and IE.
Just now tried it on the family XP machine and the same deal.

Kinda starting to think it may be duff out of the box????

Sounds like a faulty device - can you try it on another machine to eliminate all the possibilities? Since I take it you can connect to the web interface its not a network problem, but it wouldn't help pinging 192.168.2.1 and check if there are any dropped packets.

Hard reset- Did you keep the button pressed long enough?

They replaced it .... gave me a new one and this one goes into setup no problem. So I suspect some software hiccup....BUT... now this one doesn't connect.
Mweb can't pick up that I'm trying to connect, all the lights come on but won't connect to internet... so a second duff one ???....sheesh....looks like SMC stands for Sells Major Crap.
But then maybe I'm just unlucky ...
