Has anyone got a recommendation for a small handheld vacuum for hoovering the car and general crumbs and stuff from the couch? Pet hairs a huge bonus.

I got this one and it hardly sucks anything after a couple of months.

I got a black and decker that plugs into the 12v port - great for cars but useless for the couch.

Spend the cash and get a proper cordless stick vacuum that converts to handheld.. it's going to have far greater suction than any standalone handheld only dustbuster nonsense..

We recently acquired this one and it's an absolute joy to use:

It includes a brush, red one, that's specifically designed to pickup pet hair, but that's obviously for using it in stick mode..

Has great battery life, we have never run out of battery while getting through our, not so small house..

As a general rule though, for cars I would always stick to using a proper corded vacuum.. nothing is going to beat the suction power for really getting the dirt out of the carpets..

I don't mind paying a bit more for something that does both, mostly for my office probably because I'm in an external room and I leave the door open all day. It gets a bit dusty especially when the wind is blowing. But checking reviews they are all so mixed even on the top sellers it's difficult to know what to go for.

This one is top rated and was the one I was considering...

Hard to find good ones. The best i tried at a store was a smallish Dyson Cordless one that was very powerful but also insanely expensive.

That's odd your one not working so well. I have the one below and works great. Had it over a year and still works just as well as it always has.

Check this out on takealot: BLACK+DECKER 7.2V Cordless Wet & Dry Dustbuster Hand Vacuum + Accessories

The more volts, the more power it's going to have.. the one I recommended is 25V.. few of any dedicated handheld vacuums are higher than 18V..

I think it was hoovering up plaster dust that was maybe too fine and it's blocked something somewhere.

We have a Dyson, you can definitely get cheaper options. But get the combo so you can use as stand up or in car.

Also if you have cordless tools most of the major manufacturers also make cordless vacs that work on the same battery packs.

We have one of these and I have mixed feelings.
For some tasks this is great, others not so much.

To quickly vacuum up the result of your sweeping the room with a broom this is ideal.

Not ideal to vacuum your car or to vacuum drill dust.

This. You can't beat a Dyson. It's worth every penny. All the other ones I've had go pap after a few months of use. The Dyson just lasts forever.

If you have cordless power tools just get the vacuum in the range, this has the added benefit of being able to swop batteries as needed, if the battery dies the vacuum isn't bricked.
I have the Ingco/Total cordless vacuum and it works like a charm, great suction, I use it around the house and in the car.

Was looking at the exact same one, I have the bigger 6AH Ingco Battery pack for my cordless drill:

The run time on a 4AH battery is great and the suction is awesome, I've never been disappointed in how hard it sucks it just does any job I throw at it. One thing though is the 6AH battery is heavy, the added weight may take it toll on the wrist/arm.

I got this one for us at Kloppers last year. Sucks the paint off the wall. OK not really, but it sucks like hell. Cleans out easily too.

The wallbracket is my own Macguyver trick.

I have the 27Wh one. Similar to this one. All I can say it is bloody strong. It has two settings and the battery life is pretty decent.
