Hey all,

What are some good recommendations for hands free car kits. Im looking to buy one for my wife. She has a nokia but id prefer if it's something generic that can be used with any phone. Would bluetooth be the way to go then? Can a bluetooth hands free be used with any phone?

What is the voice and clarity quality like using a bluetooth hands free in a moving car (background noise etc)?

Also, it cant be something that needs to be installed in the car in a way that makes it near impossible to swap to another car. In her line of work she changes cars farely often so im hoping there's something of a reasonably good quality but can still be 'clipped' into any car.

Im hoping to find something for less than R1000.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Take a look at Parrot (by SMAC) products.
I've got the 3100 in my car and it's the best thing ever. My wife has the same unit in her car. It does require installation though.

They do have clip on or mobile products as well. My mother uses the Minikit in her car...I'll have to ask her opinion on it.

Thanks for the link. Looks like a great product but it's a bit more than im looking to spend. It doesn't look like Parrot offers anything for under R1000?

So far im leaning towards the SuperTooth Voice which goes for around R900: http://www.supertooth.net/voice.html

EDIT: Sorry, I see the Parrot minikit (http://www.smac.co.za/parrot_minikit.asp) goes for under R1000. Seems like the main difference is that this Parrot uses it's own voice recognition, not the phones. Which is a plus over the SuperTooth Voice. But the Parrot uses bluetooth v1.2 whereas the SuperTooth uses bluetooth v2.0.

hmmm. Decisions...

The Supertooth looks like a great product. You should enquire with QD Cellular (I've been to their premises in Midrand - nice guys) whether there is a possibility of a demo unit to test or get a list from them of suppliers close to you and see which supplier has a unit that can be demo'ed.

Ill give them a call, thanks.

Yup,..I think it's between the SuperTooth Voice or the Parrot Minikit. hmmm

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Im still not sure which of these two are the better option. But the SuperTooth Voice seems to be newer, so I reckon ill go for that.

Thanks.

I don't think you'll go wrong.
I asked my mom about the minikit, she said sometimes it just disconnected for no reason. She also said sometimes it was too soft for her to hear properly, but conceded that that may just be because she's getting old and hard of hearing :p

I know it's more money, but the other option is a GPS device that includes bluetooth handfree. Two birds, one stone and obviously mobile/clip on.
