Handy Must Know Linux Applications

For youtube videos, rather just change the address by inserting "ss" into the address as follows, no additional software required and works on any platform that I tried it on:

Code:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tnj9E5I3DkM

and change it to:

Code:
https://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=Tnj9E5I3DkM

then just save the video file.

Everything I use has kinda been mentioned. Sublime_text, guake, youtube-dl

What I like about youtube-dl is it does twitter and facebook, you can choose the output, and sometimes I use it just to grab the mp3.

I don't see Lutris here. Invaluable to make it easier to manage DXVK windows games.
glances also a very nice top replacement - yes I know there 1001 top replacements, but this one is like htop, just easier, and give better information, including docker containers and sensors, even spells out what is wrong.

Fanks, looks good

Just installed glances on my desktop!! wow, just the thing for my SBC's .

Guake - Dropdown thermal
I have it set to my hotkey F12.. anywhere anytime just press F12 and you got a terminal sliding out from the top :) Oh and you can tab it also

Ctrl-~ for me. Much more accessible than reaching for F12

notepadqq -- similar to Notepad++ works great!

does this work like notepad++ in regards to
“sessions”?
What I like about notepad++ is that I can create multiple files/tabs without saving them, close/reopen notepad++ and they are still there

XnView - similar to IrfanView

For downloading videos from Youtube and other popular sites don't bother with software or workarounds and just install the Savetube extension http://sebaro.pro/savetube/

The terminal: Everything you need is in there, so learn the basics at least.

Qbittorrent: For downloading (legal) stuff
Insync(paid software): Excellent Google Drive/OneDrive syncing
Blueman: A bluetooth manager cause gnome's default one sucks
Discord/Teamspeak/MS Teams is native on linux
Stacer: Ccleaner for linux
Windscribe: A cool VPN
Telegram: I usually use it to send files from my phone to PC
Exodus: A cryptocurrency wallet
Tor Browser: for doing (legal) stuff anonymously
HTOP: Terminal based system resource monitor
Neofetch: makes you look cool when you run it in terminal
Gnome-boxes: Virtualization

Thats about what I have installed, along with some of the default gnome stuff for viewing pdfs and stuff, i guess other flavours also have some default apps for this

Give brave browser a try. It's my main browser and if I need tor access there is an incognito over tor mode.

I have been using brave since alpha version and I swear I didn't know it has tor in incognito mode. Great to know!
