Hi,
Firstly I know this is not an uncommon problem, I have been reading google all morning at similar problems but wonder if any of you can offer some further advice.
Specs:
amd64 3000+
4x 512mb pc3200 crucial ballistix
ATI X800 gfx (pci-e)
(cant remember motherboard) but think its an Asus A8v deluxe, definitely via chipset
60gb maxtor IDE hard drive
The story: My computer had been working fine for months then one day it hung on the windows XP loading screen. Thinking it was a corrupted OS I changed the hard drive and reinstalled windows only to have the same problem again when installing my gfx card drivers.
When booting in safe mode it hangs on gagp30kx.sys so following another users advice, I went into the recovery prompt and renamed gagp30kx.sys to gagp30kx.bak and it booted into windows. However, once again after installing the ati gfx card drivers, it hangs again, this time without gagp30kx.sys.
Now I understand this is something to do with the VIA agp controller which is interesting as i have neither an AGP port on my MB or an AGP gfx card. I don't have onboard graphics to disable.
So by elimination:
1) not software, tried reformatting and reinstalling XP and from a different CD
2) Not the hard disk, tried replacing it.
Tonight I will try removing the memory 1 by 1 but as I have no internet at home due to the lack of a computer, anyone have any ideas?
I really appreciate any help as my housemate requires the internet to earn a living so it is quite crucial we fix this as soon as possible.
Many thanks,
Josh
