I am going to upgrade my old PC soon ansd when it comes to the graphics department well I am a little low on the green :D

So, I had a look at what DX9 & DX10 has to offter, right now DX10 midrange can't even do DX9 properly and DX10 performance is also bad.

I started to look around and this caught my eye :)

http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?products_id=13948

now should I get...
X1950GT 256MB GDDR3 256bit (DX9)
or
2600XT 256Mb GDDR3 128bit (DX9/DX10)

what do u mean DX10 cant do DX9 properly?

i've just ordered a nVidia 8800GTS 640MB, a bit pricy but i think it'll definitely be worth it!

but i guess its probably a bit out of ur price range.. so what about a nVidia 7-series card?

Oh sorry! what I mean to say is that the Mid range GPU's 2600XT/8600GT don't have the power :) for DX9/10 I would love a 8800GTS but the prices in S.A are just too high!

I say wait a little for the 55nm RV670..
Apparently gonna bring some life back to the mainstream segment..

i've got 2 x 7800's in sli - and i can tell you - the modern games like new medal of honor and bioshock doesn't reach 20fps on my setup 4800+ amd with 4gb ram.

i borrowed someone's 8600gt and it gave me higher framerates ..so if ur low on cash - get the 8600gtx

its not today but core and memory speed anymore that ONLY matters.. its the special architecture that plays a BIG role.

The problem is I have a very limited budget so I have to make some cuts here and there but you cant skimp too much on your GPU

I spoke to a few people and they say go for a 8600GTS MINIMUM for a mid/low range card, mabey I should just keep and eye out for the 55nm RV670 or save up more for a 8800GTS

55nm RV670 = HD 2950Pro to be released on Nov 19 apparently.

Why don't you just get yourself an XBOX360. Bioshock and a heap of JPRG's which
will never come to the PC play on that. You can even score one with a free copy
of Halo3. Those R6000.00 cards will be surpassed within 4 months.

If you can afford an XBOX360 you may as well get an 8800GTS, it's more powerful than the XBOX360 GPU and it will play the upcoming generation of PC games (Alan Wake, Crysis etc.) just fine.

Naaa, Im not into consoles plus I don't see "nexgen" in there either... Xbox360 & PS3 are current gen they can obly use DX9 SM 3.0 while PC can use DX10/10.1 SM 4.0/4.1 :D

Well I will just have to bite the bullet and hope for a price drop or for ATI's new cards to be cheap :D
