See, I'm not the only one, OP give it a shot. At least research it before dismissing it. Could save you thousands of bucks.

Terrible advice.

Give it a shot if you're only interested in the hard drive, sure. Do whatever you want in that case.

If you need the data though... Then that's an entirely different story and you should not give anything a shot!

You're misunderstanding what I mean, some of us don't have 4k laying around just to recover some music and a few photos, by all means if it's some really important stuff then pay the money, but if not then try our ways, at the very least OP should go do some research on the different ways to recover his/her drive. Spending an insane amount of money should not be the first resolution.
