Hard drive effect cpu speed and temp

Hi all, I dont have serious problem only it is a strange one and I am curious to the possible reason.
I am running 9850 on m4a78-pro mobo with 3 1gig kingmax 1066 ram, 4850 gfx card one 500gig seagate hdd for storage and I use 2 seperate hdd for booting. 1 I use for gaming with only software needed for games.
another for my office and internet and other stuff.

one hdd is a samsung 80 gig and other is a 320 gig seagate

Both use Vista 32.

My question is this, even if i have just installed windows and have nothing installed on either hdd my temperature is 38c on cpu and 40c on mb for samsung 80 gig but if i change to seagate 320 gig it goes to 57 on cpu and 52 on mb. These are no load temps. Under load cpu goes to 54c on samsung an 61c on seagate.

Speed on the seagate is also much faster. that is the entire pc in general.

Can the hard drive affect the cpu and ram an mb speeds an temps so much?

Speeds no, temps yes.

If you are worried about temps, get more active air cooling. All my hard drives are Seagate, and the hard drive in my external bracket gets very, very hot.

Although there shouldn't be such a big jump in temps.. Mhm...
 
What could be the difference. It would be nice to get the seagate cooler as its used mainly for games?
 
Weird, all my HD's (different brands) run at more or less the same temps and do not affect the cpu temp.

What is your cpu usage with the different drives.
 
seagate 320 gig i use for games and samsung 80 gig for office and internet and my books.

What I dont under stand is even if I have not installed anything on vista on both drives and bios settings are exactly the same in fact everything is the same then there is still about 15 to 20 degrees difference. as if hard drive slows down entire pc and then it runs cooler or maybe its faster hard drive that speeds up pc and makes it run hotter. I just cant understand why the hard drive will effect the entire pc in speed and temp. Not sure its really possible but its happening.

even with idle it is different on two different drives with all settings same.
 
Just out interest when you put in one drive is their activity and the same with the other drive.

Could it be for some odd reason vista indexing the one drive and not the other drive?

Have you tried turning indexing off to see if this may be the cause? I know sometimes vista would slow my whole pc down by indexing.

How can I check if it is busy indexing?
 
ctrl alt delete start task manager click performance and click resource monitor.

Check and see how many kbs or megs it's using and check the highest % time as well.

If it says like 5mb or 20mb you know something major is happening on the drive.
 
Is the hotter drive sitting under the cooler drive? Do the drives have active cooling (fan blowing air across them)?

Shouldn't be much heat, but it could build up and heat the rest of the case.

But does sound like your one OS installation is busy doing something.

Just felt drives and both feel very cool so i think it must be something in windows running in background, just to find out what.

also why it is effecting the cpu and mb heat it must be something major.

any other suggestions, tried stopping the indexing thing, will monitor it and post back.
 
Well if it is indexing it will use cpu, which will make it hotter.

You need to check that resource monitor and see if your cpu or hdd is being accessed, there really is nothing else you can do but that.
 
You'll see if something is chewing CPU cycles by just checking the task manager.

Perhaps you one OS installation is virus infected. :D
