My portable hdd was working fine yesterday, then i took it over to a friends and copied files over.
This morning I tried to access it, but I couldn't, it asked me to format and it also said cylic reduncy check. I can't format there are important files there. I google searched and supposedly there are recovery tools, anyone used them?
I don't care about the stuff i copied 'ast night I just want the stuff before it failed.
Help please.

It says its Healthy ( Primary Partition) RAW file system.
I dont have a linix cd.

helg,

you're in PE right?

Can anyone in PE please help Helghast out with a lunix bootable disk instead of making him wait a long time for it to DL???

having also not used that software before I have no idea how it works. But as windows keeps wanting to format the drive while connected with USB I would be hesitant / not sure if that will work.

Most external HDDs are sealed unit at the time of buying so I doubt he can take it out & connect it directly to the PC.

As I'm posting from my cell I can't read up on that either.

Does anyone here have any experience in using that software? Please provide a lil more info on it.

Try a program called GetDataBack (for FAT or NTFS, depending on what you have) and if the problem is only logical like a messed up partition table etc then it will recover your data. The fact that disk manager is seeing your drive is a great start. You should have no problem recovering your data in this particular case, all that is needed is a few mouse clicks if what you've mentioned are the only symptoms.

If you are in PE and don't come right, let me know. I work at a well known retailer there, could help you out.

So GetDataBack helped and I got all my files that I need back.
Thanks for the help!
