My computer has been freezing up a few times e.g. when I was playing a game, but with this freezing the only thing I can do it restart the computer, nothing is responsive.

Then upon restart, it says Disk Read Error, press CTRL, ALT, DEL to restart. It also when booting and doing this, lists my hard drive make as being something like "Bzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzzzzzzbzbzbzbzb"

Then I restart a few times and the computer works fine again.

I ran CHKDSK and it didn't detect anything wrong.

Does this mean my hard drive is dying? Should I reinstall windows on another hard drive?

Thanks

depending on your make of hdd, run seagate diagnostic tools or WD diagnostic tools (assuming it's one of these makes). check appropriate websites for d/l.

if you can, get a copy of hard disk sentinel and check as well.

Could be a Seagate Hybrid 500GB + 4GB SSD? Unless that's for the Mac.

Sounds fooked. Is the HDD making any strange sounds? Can you run a SMART test when in Windows?

get the hirens CD and burn and boot off of it, it has all those drive specific tools and more. Check you dont have a boot sector virus with TDSKILLER, i think its called, and you can try take the drive out and scan that way for viruses, tho i doubt its that. A client had that problem after i removed virus' and repair installed and it would randomly "disk read error" on booting, really weird. I reinstalled with windows 7 instead and things were fine after. I wonder about that sound u say its making tho......

Download Crystaldiskinfo and check if it shows any errors on the drive's SMART info. It probably will. Backup ASAP!

Have you checked that data & power cables are securely attached?
