So, I wanna get my first 2TB Hard Drive... I have plenty of 1 TB.... BUT... I want to know form my fellow MyBroadbanders, which hard drive is the most reliable... iow, the MTBF

Now, I want to know from guys who bought hard drives larger than 500GB, and put the drive into service, not more than 4 years ago. Reason being, we can start afresh with manufactures, also, for those with Seagates, the firmware issue, a year or so ago, can also NOT be taken into account, as that was an exception/manufacturer fault, and was not caused by day-to-day usage.

Based on the results in this forum, and a couple others, I will be compiling a report, as part of a statistics project.

In your posts, please give the brand and if possible the model number of the hard drive, and if you know it, the rated speed of the drive, when the drive was commissioned, and your opinion on the brand you are using in general, and if it kicked the bucket, when?.

Please post only consumer grade hard drives, iow, no server/enterprise-class hard drives.

Example:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11, 1 TB. 7200rpm. 2009/10. This is a good drive, had no issues with it so far, a little slow on spin-up.

Thanks for any info guys, I'm sure on MyBroadband member will also some of the info, when making HDD purchases.

I would buy Samsung, Seagate or Western Digital without blinking an eye and have actually purchased one of each (500GB or bigger) in recent times.

Hitachi, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Seagate, WD, Maxtor, Samsung. Own all. Only Seagate, WD and Maxtor gave me problems. Maxtor + LaCie is the worst combo you can imagine.

SSD: Intel and Toshiba, both great makes, Intel No 1 of course.

Panasonic use Toshiba drives in their Toughbooks. If anything that says something.

My recommendation is to buy a 2TB Enterprise class HDD.

e.g. Hitachi Ultrastar A7K2000 2TB, Seagate Constellation ES 2TB.
