Looking for some opinions.

1) Disc speed test

2) Disc cloning (creating a bootable clone)
In the past i have used:
carbon copy cloner
la cie - silverkeeper
drive genius

wondering what other options there may be

Disk Utility exists so no need for anything else to do a clone.

And that begs the question why a clone at all since Time Machine is there.

As for speed...why? It's not like you are going to run out and buy a different one if it isn't fast enough.

Lol. I completely missed that this was in the apple thread.

Also, are clones even still bootable? Something reminds me it can only be done via Time Machine and Migration Assistant these days. Could be wrong. Would like to know.

Just hold Alt and off you go just as always.

Assuming they are done properly in the first place.

Target Drive however I don’t think you can use to boot from any longer.

Did not work the last time I tried with CCC and a modern macOS.

And you still aren’t going to run out and buy a new one after you tested it so it’s a frivolous exercise.
Because I only have one external drive… ?

It’s also handy for testing memory cards and even cables of which I also have many and base my future purchases on the performance of my existing ones… like my hard drives.
