Noticing while in traffic, and almost stationary, or going very slowly

becoming more and more hard to select gear, especially 1st and 2nd, Its like I need to almost force it in to the gate.

did change a while back my clutch cable, and thought maybe its not adjusted properly, checked with a mechanic, says its fine, not broken fraying like it did last time

what else should I check? should I try loosening the nut that holds it to the gearbox more? something else worn out?

thanks for this; seems like the clutch is dragging and difficult to shift into gear at the same time,

issue with the linkage, as I had the cable replaced a while back, a
and it was adjusted very high, and the mechanic showed me how to adjust it myself.

theres a certain nut that connects to the gearbox that you pull and tighten/loosen and this affects the clutch.

not sure if anybody here ever adjusted this before, and whats a great way to check its adjusted properly,
as its impossible to check when the engines off or driving slowly.

I'm starting to get a shatter on the clutch in the Figo when the car is cold. First time I have ever experienced this and no idea what could be causing it. Will drive it as such and replace the clutch when it goes.

When the car is warmer there is no shatter and it's fine. Just weird.

edit: seems the correct term is - chattering

You know it would help if you provided more details about the car in question, pointless someone telling you how to do it on ferrari for example.

Yeah for shattering you gonna need to put some nappies on the car :p

Seems your rubbers or joints in the gear selection linkage might be worn or faulty.

Had the same issues with a car long ago, with mine it was uneven wear and "crumbling" of the clutch plate - sure sign or needing replacement.

My figo has been doing this for the last 20k or so. Most days it doesn't, but sometimes it does. No unwanted slipping, just a judder when slipping the clutch. I spoke to a mechanic who said the figo and fiesta on which it's based are known to develop the judder. He said the clutch should still last a normal lifespan even with the judder and that fixing the judder involves fitting a new clutch kit.

Considering it's a car with a clutch cable and considering it was recently changed...that's your answer right there.

It's probably stretched a little bit since fitment thus the result.

Just adjust it at the gearbox with I would say no more than 2 full turns in either direction. If it gets worse then turn it back and 2 turns the other way.

It it's better but not gone give it increments of one full turn until you are happy with it.

If the adjustment doesn't make it better then you have deeper problems, but I wouldn't worry about that before confirming with the adjustment.

Sounds like an oil problem to me considering it goes away as the car gets warmer.

Maybe they put the wrong oil in there?

Not that big of a concern just feels funny. If it's goes boom, will just replace the clutch then

Could be, I'll have them check it with the next service.

Why do I smell sulphur sometimes when I change gears? Clutch depressed all the way in and quick gear change, then slow release to avoid that "jolt" of the transmission slipping into the engine.

Turned it 3 turns tight wouldn't even go into gear, kept loosing it, until I felt good enough but seems to be something I'm gonna have to do regularly as it still sometimes drags slightly in 1st gear clutch in sitting in traffic

Car is a 2010 picanto for somebody who asked

I would expect a 2010 model to have a hydraulic clutch.

And you can't go any more? Sounds like you have a cable that has stretched already and is going to need to be replaced if you have no more adjustment to make.

Or you could try fitting a spacer of some kind. Might even be that one is missing.

I would expect a 2010 model to have a hydraulic clutch.

Not really that uncommon for cheaper cars.

I can still tighten if needed and as far as I know not missing spacers

Strange a 2010 car without a/c ,p/s or hydraulic clutch. Still can't belive myself they still sell cars like this
