I recently formatted my one harddrive (seagate 320gb sata) on vista but instead of actually formatting it i highlighted everything and deleted it. it took a long time and after about an hour i pressed cancel. Vista gave me the all so familiar "not responding" error thing and i rebooted my pc after it stayed like that for another 30 mins.

The problem now is the drive wont work anymore. it does pick it up when i try to manage the drive but i cant assign a drive letter on it or format it properly.

Has anyone had the same problem and can help me or should i chuck it?

No, don't chuck it.

Right-click on My Computer

Click Manage

Go to the drive manager category

Check if your 32Gb is picked up by DM

Delete that partition, and create a new one, format it.

Your problem should be solved.

If you can't delete that partition, boot Knoppix, and use the gparted util to delete that partition, and recreate that partition with Vista.

Good luck.

Other forumites may have other ideas which you can also try ;)

I tried deleting the partition by right click manage drives and all that. What is Knoppix? noobish with hardware problems hehe.

Oh yeah I deleted the hellspawn OS and got XP again.

Knoppix is a live Linux distro which you can run from CD.

Useful in situations where Windows won't boot, and you need to copy data off a HDD.

ok cool will give it a try. when i get home SIGH...

late reply. I put in the hard drive in my pc but it doenst pick it up anywhere. not in disk management. I allready have 4 other hdd connected. could that be the problem. never heard of it before.

Is there another tool apart from Knoppix. cant download big files
