Hardrive problem

Not really. Thats why you put it in a plastic bad & remove the air from it to shield the circuit board. Drives are sealed nowadays under low moisture conditions so no moisture inside irrespective of what you do temp wise.

I disagree. Drives are not totally sealed afaik, they all have a small hole for air intake that is filtered. It's not the exterior PCB that I'm principally worried about here.

The air inside of the drive will get cold in the freezer, the warming of the drive inside when it is under operation will cause condensation. Drives have some dessicant inside to protect against moisture, whether or not it will be enough is a gamble. Like I said before I wouldn't risk it with important data.

@kkza, what company did youir friend use so that we all know to avoid them?

The company that I posted say they will only charge you once data has been recovered afaik, so it looks like a much better deal.

Ontrack Easyrecovery pro does that. I use it all the time and it really is cool....

Not for linux XFS file system. Been there, tried that. Unless I lost the plot.

It does not recognise file systems beyond the normal MS stuff. You can do a RAW scan and then it finds files called FILxxxx.DBF

EDIT: Looks like I lost the plot. It does seem to create folder trees for different file formats. I'll have to run it tonight or tomorrow sometime to see how it works out as it will take about 6hrs just for a scan.
