Hi! I just purchased a new PC with 2 1TB hardrives. I was told to install Windows (7) when I switched the PC on.

Following the installation instructions, I proceeded to install Windows on the first 1TB hardrive. The installation was successful, however when I went to the "Computer" icon on my Desktop, I noticed that I had just one hardrive visible.

I haven't a clue on how to get Windows 7 to detect my secondary hardrive. I've tried Googling my problem, but do not understand half of what the explanations are telling me to do!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Easy to solve
Click on start up comes your menu in the righthand you will see Computer right-click mouse and you should see a small table of contents. Press on the manage key his brings up the Computer Management you will see in the righthand disk management press this to open you should see the drive if it is installed you right-click and press the format key the drive should be visible in Explorer now.

Thank you for replying! I followed your steps and was able to detect just the single hardrive. The other one is not visible in the Disk Management window.

I was able to see the second hardrive when I initially installed Windows 7 on the first hardrive.

Yeah, As MrMag said,
Go to disk management, You will see the second drive there, Righ click on that drive and select create new volume or something like that.

Regards

That doesn't seem right, Check that the hard is connected properly.

Going to Google how to do that and hope that works.

At the moment if I try and re-install Windows 7, it shows both 1TB hardrives as the Primary hardrive.

Open the Bios when your machine starts, check how many harddrives are listed there

in disk management does it show the hard drive as 2TB? it could be that the people that built the PC up have mirrored the drive's together or did some kind of RAID on it.

No, its not showing up as 2TB. I'm quite stumped.

I re-installed Windows 7 on the second hardrive, that was not visible in the Disk Management window. I'm now able to see both hardrives and Windows is now detecting the second hardrive as the Primary one.

When I go to Disk Management, I see the following:

C: Layout - Simple; Type - Basic; File System - NTFS; Status - Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition); Capacity - 931.51GB; Free Space - 910.42GB

D: Layout - Simple; Type - Basic; File System - NTFS; Status - Healthy (Primary Partition); Capacity - 931.51GB; Free Space - 931.51GB

System Reserved - Layout - Simple; Type - Basic; File System - NTFS; Status - Healthy (System; Active Primary Partition); Capacity - 100MB; Free Space - 72MB
