Hmm, I thought the 4TB seemed cheap, compared to other places I've shopped at.

Well they phoned at 5pm yesterday to say the drives have arrived and they can only keep me 1 and only till COB on Sunday to collect it. I picked mine up this morning when I finished work and the duck behind the counter said there has been several screaming matches with customers demanding to pay the lower price but the 10 @ R899 were booked on Thursday morning already (I was nr 1 of 10)

I have exactly the same model Seagate external in 1TB flavour which I paid R899 for this time last year so I am chuffed with the new drive!
 
@FlashSA , I'm surprised they kept you one. Normally when retailers run hectic specials like that it's first come first served. Or had you been there in person to book one on launch day?

Yeah, I mentioned further up in the thread that i was the first person to walk through the door on day 1 of the special and they gave me a quote for 1 drive which reserved me one when stock came in.

Yes, but Takealot seems to be the cheapest these days wrt hard drives. On the two drives you mentioned:

WD Green 4TB SATA2 6Gb/s 64 MB Cache - 3.5" Hard Drive
Takealot: R1910, in stock, inc delivery
Wootware: R2054, in stock with supplier, ex delivery

Saved: R144 + Delivery Costs

WD Red 3.5 Inch SATA Hard Drive - 4TB
Takealot: R2132, in stock with supplier, inc delivery
Wootware: R2332, in stock with supplier, ex delivery

Saved: R200 + Delivery Costs

Same model as well, so it isn't different revisions of the same drive.
 
This is why I don't like hifi Corp. Or game. Great special but no sorry no stock. At least game offer you a rain check. Although they don't call you back but rather wait for yoy to call them or show up.

To be fair to Hifi Corp, they gave me a quote for the 2TB which reserved one for me and then also phoned me when stock arrived. I was impressed.

They are out of stock of the non-special price. They even removed all their pamflets even the ones against the walls
