4100mAh battery with a greater capacity

Battery capacity has increased by about 2 times, however, smartphone became even thinner by 0.9mm

On the subject of Xiaomi: I used to have an LG G5 and the GPS stopped working twice, on both the original and the replacement that was issued. An HTC M8 prior to that which had to have the digitiser replaced (under warranty, but regardless). Don't get me wrong, I loved those phones, but there will come a time in your life when you can't immediately afford the latest and greatest supposedly well-built phone, yet you still need one that can handle some basic to half-hardcore apps.

After the G5 was stolen, I bought a Redmi 3S for R2500 and I have yet to moan about anything. The battery lasts me about a full day and a half (Neither the HTC nor the LG managed that. Ever). The SA Xiaomi website had a TPU case and tempered screen protector for R30 each and was delivered the 2 days later for R60.

Yes, their spelling and grammar is a joke. Yes, their CEO did unveil one of their phones dressed in jeans and a black turtleneck. Yes, that same presentation ended with an english slide that said "one more thing..." No, the average Redmi will probably not outlast an iPhone or HTC/Samsung/Nokia build in terms of build quality. But I used to look down on these chinese knock offs as a waste of money, similar to when Hyundai first appeared. And while Hyundai may not threaten the likes of BMW, they do have their place.

^Some good points, thanks for sharing. I have decided to just stick to buying Samsung's Galaxy flagship phones but 2 or 3 generations back, they get so cheap it's a joke and by that time all the issues have been repaired/ironed out/firmware rock solid, accessories are cheap aswell etc.

I used to always buy Sony ect, and they all died horrible deaths.

Then tested 2 chinese phones.

Wife has a Huawei P9 lite. After a year, it mostly works, with some software annoyances.
Me got a Xiaomi Mi 5. After a year, its still absolutely epic. No issues whatsoever, and it is a pleasure to use.

So not all chinese phones are great. The P9 lite is entry level so maybe that. But the Xiaomi is a brand I will most definitely buy again.
 
+1 for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, replaced my Galaxy Note 4 with it and loving it. Good build, fast and the battery life is epic: 2 full days of constant use and still 20% life left! Would definitely buy the brand again.
And there's some good pricing on them at the moment.

^ This, I replaced my P8 with one of these (Redmi Note 4) and I have not had a thing to complain about.

Edit: The Note 4 is by far a better phone.

Replaced my galaxy note 2 with a redmi 4a, haven't looked back since.
