I see a number of hardware manufacturing companies (Nvidia, Samsung, etc.) are selling mining hardware. If cryptocurrency was as certain as people think, wouldn't these companies just use their own hardware?

using your own hardware is one thing having endless power to power it is another

How do you know they aren't? And if they are it's still surely it's more profitable to use your own hardware AND sell your own hardware.

Would also be silly for them to completely abandon a profitable global business (supplying hardware) only to focus exclusively on mining...all eggs in one basket isn't a great idea.

The energy consumption of crypto is something that bothers me. I wish I had the loot to setup a solar farm for mining & rent out excess energy to the grid.

It makes cents that this would work.

Crypto mining is a race to electric efficiency in a lot of ways, because whoever mines it at the lowest cost, wins the biggest. So if solar is cheapest. It makes sense to make solar farms just for mining.

Anyone wanna fund my idea? :D

Why should Nvidia, Samsung, etc. become crypto mining companies? That's like saying Mercedes Benz should be in the business of deliveries, not building trucks for delivery. Why don't we all become couriers if it's a sure thing?
No, Mercedes and all other companies are in the business of making money. They have just chosen their strengths (i.e. car design, build, sales and support). In this scenario, if the products "generate" money directly, they dont need to "courier"...hence my point.

Good point...would love to do some research into their crypto holdings!

they are in the business of making products not mining **** coins
No, all companies in the business of making money. Traditional companies use their strengths to generate money (e.g. assets, intellectual property, process, equipment, etc.). Unfortunately, traditional money making suggests you design, build, supply, sell and support your product to generate cash, but if could skip the supply, sell and support items (i.e. crypto model), wouldn't you?
