Hardware driver problem.

I had to reload Windows XP and since then on every startup I get a window saying "New hardware found". "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus"
What can this be?
Cannot find driver for it. Not even over the net.

install kb888111 if you are on sp2 level.

if not, get on to sp2 level, and then install kb888111
that will sort out the soundcard driver correctly, and allow you to install the modem drivers, on the laptop you are using.

Also run XP3 , go to microsoft updates website , run the updates manually and automatically will give you the software needed.

I remember that my Sony VAIO XP downgrade pack included a patch KB835221 which will allow the system to "see" the audio/modem hardware. Once this patch is installed you should be able to install the drivers included with your hardware.

I have SP3 with KB888111 and it shows "OK"

This seems to be a common problem when windows is reinstalled. There are pages and pages of complaints and no resolution.
KB888111 is for SP2 only and KB835221 is for SP1 only.
Went to MS update website and did a check and it found only one "security" file missing.
Will have to live with this till SP4.

Unfortunately there will not be a 4th service pack for XP, SP3 is the last Microsoft is releasing for the platform.

I've had that high definition audio issue, and it's a royal pain. You've already been though most of the suggested solutions, but hopefully something will come up and you can fix it. Good luck.

How do I get back from SP3 to SP2?
This will solve my problem.

Did a manual install. Fixed now.
