Hi all,

I am looking for a 100Gb Notebook HDD (2.5") and a 2.5" HDD enclosure (USB2). Or a complete unit, but I need something without an additional power supply (notebook or PC should supply power via USB)

Thanks

That's going to be hard to find, rather go for a normal hdd, not notebook.
See www.eshopper.co.za for external hdd's, also check out the take2 catalogue

You're going to pay more for notebook hdd aswell

Sudt, why is it so hard to find ... Had no problems previously. HDD = R1600, NexStar 3 = R374. I don't want a normal HDD, as I don't want an additional power supply

try the Western Digital Passport - 80GB

no additional power needed - got mine at Makro

Sorry LandyMan and others, guess I'm not that clued up with the technology. Glad you found it, although it's too expensive for my pocket, you can't believe it hey, a notebook external hdd is almost twice the price as a normal one.

beware!! the mobile hdd's require more power than the 500mw provided by USB. most pc manufacturers do not provide overload protection, so these work on most pc's. some manufacturers (like my compaq nx7010) has protection built in, so the USB/mobile hdd's don't work on it.

luckely, the casing i have has two usb cables, one for power and data, and the other for just power. if i plug both in, it works.

Works perfectly fine on my nx9110 ... but I also have the extra little piece on the cable should you need the power. But there is still no external transformer

I've got a bunch of mecer 2.5" cases that were dead cheap. Everytime I salvage a laptop I chuck the hdd in one of those. Pity they're not f/w but still useful to have around. They also come with a second usb power cable thats handy to charge a nokia.

I gave the infot to my friend, he went to Makro about 30 minutes after (price on website = R899). They reckon him it is R1499 ... showed them the site, and they gave it to him for R895.

Thanks willirob :D
Still on the site for R895 - so definitely getting one tomorrow as well ... at that price, why not an extra 80Gb? :d
