One can buy Mywireless without their modem right. But what other modems are there to use?????

Does iburst and senteh use the same modems?

No you cannot, they are both proprietary modems & cannot be interchanged - ever...

Besides the big glaring fact that iBurst uses iBurst technology and Sentech uses 3G technology. It would be like trying to network 2 pc's, one using ethernet and the other with fibre

thats not actually such a problem, for R10K , one can pick up a fibre/UTP converter.

Sentech uses a frequency of 2.5 Ghz and Iburst uses in the region of 900 Mhz. because Sentech uses a higher frequency they only get a radius of 5.7 km radius from tower where Iburst using the lower frequency gets about 16km from tower. With Sentech you cannot connect outside this area even if you have line of sight with tower and have full signal. The software on the modem doesn't allow this. With Iburst the closer you are to the tower the better your speed and the further away you are the worse your speed becomes.

Ah no, Iburst uses a freq somewhere in the 1800-1900MHz range; a seemingly pretty believable .au site reviewing the product at http://tinyurl.com/8ze2e tends to support this, as does a Kyocera .pdf I have lurking on my drive -a copy of which, along with an ArrayComm whitepaper I also have (damn interesting reading too), anyone is welcome to.

The *artificial* just_under_6km range limit on Sentech's system is pretty much right, but those suckers have a switch in 'em to shunt the range WAY further than that but due to some Great Design Scheme(tm) they have (and I HAVE to believe that there IS a plan to their madness ), but my personal best long distance record was 5.95km with a 60cm dish a few degrees off due north of Helderkruin.
